Billie Eilish Will Join Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson, Jon Batiste, Becky G, Scott George Performing Best Songs on Oscars

The five Best Song performances at the Oscars were announced today.

All five songs will be performed by the people who sang or played them in their respective movies.

These will likely not be the only musical numbers on the show. There’s also the In Memoriam, and maybe some surprises. You never know.

NCIS News: Tony and Ziva Are Getting Their Own Series, Set in Paris, on Paramount Plus

So…
last week’s appearance by Michael Weatherly on “NCIS” wasn’t an accident.

Weatherly and Cote de Pablo have signed up for an NCIS spin off series on Paramont Plus. It will be set in Paris. The actors will be playing Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo, star crossed lovers who’ve never quite gotten it together on the main show.

Cote de Pablo left the show in 2013, but residuals only last so long. It’s time to pay the mortgage. Weatherly left in 2015 and then had six seasons as CBS’s “Bull.”

In the story, the two left for Paris with their daughter, who I guess is ten years old and can be kidnapped for various plots.

According to CBS: “When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.”

Paramount Plus obviously is into resurrecting old TV ideas that they own. They just renewed “Frasier” 2.0 for a second run. They should really order a new iteration of CBS’s “Knots Landing.” And there’s always “My Favorite Martian.”

It’s a little eerie now that beloved actor Richard Lewis has sadly died.

In the third of episode of this season’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which aired two weeks ago, Larry David and Richard Lewis argue about leaving money to each if the other one dies first.

Lewis says, sitting in a golf cart, apropos of nothing: “By the way, my will. I’m going to see an estate attorney this week. So you’ll be covered. You’re set.”

Larry immediately counters that Lewis is doing this so Larry will put him in his will. Then a lightbulb goes off because he assumes Lewis is setting him up.

David: “And by the way, what makes you think I’m going to die before you?”

Lewis: “You’re a little ragged right now,” he retorts. I’m in a little better shape than you.”

“I’m going to outlive you by 20 years!” insists Larry.

Lewis: My trainer is going to move in with me!”

But what’s it all about? Lewis says to Larry, in real life his friend since birth: “When I die I want you to know how much I care about you!”

And that sums it up.

RIP Beloved Comic and Actor Richard Lewis, 76: Hit it Big with “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (Read Larry David’s Tearful Statement)

Richard Lewis has passed away at age 76 according to reports.

Larry David said in a statement: “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

He’d been ill for some time, but he soldiered on, appeared in “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as much as possible. He has only been on briefly, in one episode, this season, and I guess this explains why. Lewis had talked about his battle with Parkinson’s Disease, which really looked like it had wiped him out in recent years.

(He really flourished in the season about The Spite Store.)

Lewis was a hot shot comic from the 1970s. I just loved him, and was so thrilled when I’d bump into him in LA. He was very impressed that I remembered a little autobiographical film he’d made when he was young that helped put him on the map. (It was called “Diary of a Young Comic” and the promo is below.)

Even though he’d gotten the huge audience from “Curb,” Lewis was a cutting edge comic back in the day. He appeared on every late night show, and was a hit on the touring circuit.

In the late 80s, Lewis starred with Jamie Lee Curtis in a sitcom called “Anything But Love” that was too hip for its time. Lewis’s comedy was like that, acerbic and neurotic and totally relatable.

More to come…I’m really bummed, I know a lot of people are…And now “Curb Your Enthusiasm” really is over with him and Bob Einstein both gone.

Ratings: “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Struggling with 100K Drop from First Week of Final Season

It may be this is really the end of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Sunday’s episode was down 20% from last week. With 317,000 total viewers, the Larry David comedy is off more than 100,000 viewers from its return four weeks ago.

It’s not like the cast isn’t out there promoting. I’ve seen Susie and Jeff a lot. Also Larry punched out Elmo on “Good Morning America.”

But the shows have not been great so far. The first two weeks the series went to Atlanta, which wasn’t funny. In the third week there was improvement.

But Sunday night, it seemed like “Curb” was on autopilot. For one thing, there’s much locker room talk about “balls.” It’s just kind of gross and not up to par.

Then there’s the Asian manager of the country club becoming a constant joke. It’s not working and isn’t funny.

MSNBC’s Willy Geist was the guest star this week. He actually didn’t do too badly, but why was he so prominent? We are missing many of the show’s regulars considering the end is near. Where is Richard Kind, for example? And why is Tracey Ullman still around? She’s such a great talent, but this character has worn out its welcome.

This Sunday is episode 5. Let’s hope that there’s some arc coming that includes everyone and drives to the story to its conclusion — something to keep us watching!

50 Years Later, Jim Croce’s Greatest Hits Album Number 2 on iTunes, Two Months in Top 10

You really don’t mess around with Jim.

Literally 50 years (and 6 months) after his tragic death in a plane crash, singer songwriter Jim Croce is ruling the charts.

Croce’s album of hits, called “Greatest,” has risen to number 2 on the album charts. It’s been in the top 10 for all of January and February.

“Greatest” has survived a slew of new releases that have come and gone.

In the space of maybe two years in 1972-74, Croce was a phenom on radio. His acoustic guitar driven hits included “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim,” “Bad Bad Leroy Brown,” “Time in a Bottle,” “Operator,” “I Got a Name,” “I’ll Have to Say I Love You in a Song,” and many others.

Croce (pronounced Crow-chee) with his memorable handlebar mustache was the talk of the town. And then on September 20, 1973, Croce, just 30, saw it all end in a plane crash in Louisiana. Back then we were certainly in the era of rock star deaths after Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. But this one was hard to understand since Croce was such a vibrant, overnight sensation. It was really cruel.

According to Luminate, “Greatest” is the number 3 best selling digital album right now. It looks like it’s sold the equivalent of 35,000 copies in 8 weeks, but that number may still be revised. “Tin a Bottle” is the leader among its individual tracks, largely because it’s unparalleled piece of beautiful music. When Croce died, it was already on the charts. The irony of the song’s message propelled it to number 1.

Well, real songs are back in fashion with performers like Taylor Swift and Noah Kahan. Maybe a new generation is reaching back to find their predecessors. (I’d love to see Jorma Kakounen’s “Genesis” get the same reception — and he’s alive!)

So kudos to Jim Croce! He’d have been a great 80 year old! But timeless music lives on!

Music mogul and living legend Clive Davis is being honored by the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall on April 29th.

Let me tell you that from the seating chart, the famed concert hall is 99% sold out. There are a few tickets left, which is ironic since no one knew who was going to perform.

How do you get to appear on stage at Clive’s big event? Practice, practice, practice.

Seriously, all the songs sung on stage will be just ones over which Clive presided. You know that could mean Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, and god knows who else.

But I can tell you exclusively that once again Clive has put together a five star show. Already nailed down are Dionne Warwick, Barry Manilow, Babyface, John Mellencamp, Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas, Deborah Cox, and Melissa Manchester. There will be others, maybe my earlier mentions.

This means, among other things, there will be a rare live performance of “Smooth,” the most popular song of the last 20 years, from Carlos and Rob. Carnegie Hall will be shakin’!

What to do? I’d call the box office now and beg. Let’s hope there’s a live stream and Carnegie Hall charges big bucks for it. This sounds like the show of the century– although Clive just had that in LA less than a month ago!

The occasion by the way is the Pops’ 41st birthday. But earlier that month Monsieur Davis will celebrate a birthday! There had better be cake for everyone!

PS Isn’t it time for Clive to be honored by the Kennedy Center? I think so (along with Liza Minnelli and a few others).

The whole thing, by the way, is insane considering it was only a few weeks ago in Los Angeles that Clive put on his five star pre Grammy dinner and concert at the Beverly Hilton with Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Green Day, Ice Spice, and a dozen other A list acts!

Adele says she’s postponing all her March shows in Las Vegas.

The reason? Throat problems. You can read her statement below.

She has been performing constantly, so this isn’t a shock. Formerly averse to doing shows, Adele has been knee deep in them for over a year.

Adele’s residency will resume in May, when these shows will be rescheduled.

Hope she feels better! Drink a lot of tea with lemon.

Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie Appears Wednesday on Rival Fox & Friends Promoting Book About Faith and God

The Today Show seems to really be loosening up.

They’re allowing the show’s co-host Savannah Guthrie to cross enemy lines: she’s set to appear Wednesday morning on Fox and Friends on Fox News.

Guthrie will be promoting her new book about Christian values, “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere,” during a segment she taped today. The possibility exists that she’ll be on both shows at the same time. Even Barbara Walters didn’t do that!

Apparently Guthrie and Fox and Fiends co-host Ainsley Earhardt have bonded through their religious fervor.

Guthie has been widely criticized lately by “Today” viewers for flogging her wares on the show. A lot. Not only has Savannah jawed with Hoda and friends, she invited country singer Hillary Scott to perform. They befriended each other when Savannah was on her book tour in Nashville. The result was a spike in Scott’s record sales.

It’s hard to say how Savannah’s book — which is Jesus centric — is going down at home. She’s been married for several years to Mike Feldman, who is Jewish and says so on his Wikipedia page. But according to a piece in the NY Times from 2017, the kids are being raised in the church.

Savannah’s book is described by her publisher: “Sharing hard-won wisdom forged from mountaintop triumphs, crushing failures, and even the mundane moments of day-to-day living, Mostly What God Does reveals the transformative ways that belief in God helps us discover real hope for this life and beyond.”

Urgent!

Everyone wants Foreigner inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Paul McCartney made a funny little video for social media, like two seconds. The noise he makes at the end is hilarious!

Peter Frampton, also nominated for induction, sent out his own endorsement. So did Sean Ono Lennon.

Foreigner should have been in a long time ago. You know the long wait has to do with Jann Wenner, who probably has some beef with Mick Jones. I think they’re get in easily. And there will be a big gospel singalong to “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

PS You know who else belongs? How about Neil Sedaka? They should put him in as an early influencer. Tommy James and the Shondells? Mary Wells? I could go on and on…
