Is Pete Davidson Gone from “SNL”? (Probably.) He’s Been Kidnapped by the Kardashians

Tonight, “SNL” is new with Selena Gomez as host and the face tatooed Post Malone as musical guest.

But Pete Davidson is unlikely to make an appearance.

Davidson has been gone from the show beginning February 26th when he went off to shoot an indie horror film in Staten Island, of all places.

He’s made one video appearance since then. He also turned up with Kim Kardashian and her den of thieves at the Met Ball.

But it doesn’t seem like Pete is coming back. Kim and her crew live far away in suburban Calabasas, California. Pete is now part of their cult of vultures. The hope is he won’t be diverted the way all the other men have who’ve been through that mill including and not limited to Lamar Odom, Kanye West, Kim Humphries, and the no longer extant Bruce Jenner.

Pete is 28, and had so much potential. Lorne Michaels still has him penned in for a sitcom about Pete playing himself.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll see a pop up cameo tonight. But I wouldn’t count on it. With Selena as host, I’d put money on Steve Martin and Martin Short surprising us instead.

(Watch) That’s Life: Sting Has Produced Shaggy’s Sparkling Album of Classic Songs Gone Reggae

I’m bouncing around this morning listening to Shaggy cover the Frank Sinatra- Tony Bennett crooner classic, “That’s Life.”

The track and the album it’s from, called “Com Fly Wid Mi,” are produced by none other than Sting. The single is out now, watch the video. The album hits on May 25th with Shaggy appearing on a lot of talk shows. The next night, May 26th, there’s a special live performance with Sting and Shaggy at the Blue Note in Greenwich Village.

PS Sting’s tour has arrived in the US. He’s playing Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut on Sunday, May 15th. Then comes his residency in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, “Mrs. Sting,” the one and only Trudie Styler has been in Ukraine meeting refugees and raising money. Plus Sting and Trudie’s daughter, Elliot Sumner, has a new single (see below) called “Angel” from the movie, “Infinite Storm,” which Styler produced.

PS Sting’s son, Joe Sumner, just played the Rockwood Music Hall in downtown New York apart from his dad’s tour (May 16th– Rockboy Philly club in Philadelphia). Daughter Mickey is starring in “Snowpiercer” on TBS, daughter Kate is acting in Los Angeles. What a family!

“Firestarter” Remake Fails to Ignite Audiences or Critics: Just $1.5 Million Opening Night, and Bad Bad Reviews

0

Pictures rarely has a total bust on its hands in the horror department.

But the remake of Stephen King’s “Firestarter” is a non-starter. It failed to ignite at theaters the last two nights with a combined Thursday-Friday total of just $1.5 million.

Luckily, the budget is low — $12 million. And “Firestarter,” a Universal release, is also playing on Peacock.

But still…Zac Efron is the star, screenwriter (not of this) Akiva Goldsman is a producer. And still, the new version has just a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers are calling for Efron to fire his agent. it’s that bad.

In other box office news, tonight “Doctor Strange 2” crosses the $250 million mark after just 8 days.

“ER” Star Anthony Edwards Isn’t in “Top Gun,” But Last Night He Sang Bob Dylan Songs on Broadway

0

“ER” star Anthony Edwards can’t be in “Top Gun Maverick” because his character, Goose, died in the first movie, Spoiler alert!

But last night the former “Dr. Greene” from “ER” made a surprise appearance on Broadway singing Bob Dylan songs.

Edwards’ wife, Mare Winningham, is the Tony nominated star of “Girl from the North Country.” After he dropped her off at the theater and headed home to Connecticut, Winningham called and told him one of the actors, the great Robert Joy, had been felled by COVID. The stand-bys were also sick. If they couldn’t replace Almond, they’d have to cancel the performance.

So Edwards zipped back in, picked up a script, and performed the role. He got a standing ovation, of course!

You can watch a video below of Anthony and Mare recounting the whole saga from her dressing room.

PS Mare deserves the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical. But she has the “Best Tony” already! (Sorry had to do that.) The show has seven Tony nominations in all!

“Girl from the North Country” just extended its run to June 19th. It’s the Best New Musical on Broadway, absolutely sublime. Don’t miss it!

UPDATE: Sean P Diddy Combs Got His Way: Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen Will Be Welcomed on Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards

I’ve confirmed with NBC that both rapper Travis Scott and country star Morgan Wallen will perform on the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

Dick Clark Productions and NBC have caved to the desires of Sean P Diddy Combs, who is hosting the show. Billboard, which creates the awards, is obviously cool with it, too.

All these organizations for some reason are eager to normalize Travis Scott despite the AstroWorld tragedy last year in which a dozen people died and hundreds were injured. Scott is being sued by everyone involved, accused of inciting and encouraging the crowd surge at the concert which caused such destruction.

Hey, but that was last year, right? Like, six months ago. All is forgiven, right?

Well, no, not if you lost a family member or friend in the disaster. Or if you’re the woman who filed suit today. She says the crowd crush caused her to miscarry a child. Also, Scott has a history before Astro World of violence at his shows, injuries, and other lawsuits.

But this what has happened: no one will take a stand against putting this person on TV as a rock star. Not even Billboard will take a stand, and they reported at the end of January about 400 lawsuits that were combined into one against Scott and the show’s organizers. There’s some disconnect between Billboard and its music awards.

Meanwhile, it was also determined that country star Morgan Wallen is also rehabilitated now. He was over heard in a home video using the N word last year. For a short time he was “punished.” But Wallen’s sales have just grown and grown. He made some donations and paid lip service, and now the incident is behind him. It doesn’t seem to have bothered Combs, who is Black, and has gone on tirades about the mistreatment of Blacks.

And obviously the other Black artists on The Billboard Music Awards, including Scott, don’t care about what Wallen did.

But that’s the way it goes. Death, racism, none of it apparently matters when ratings might be involved.

You can read more about AstroWorld here.

TV: ABC Renews Wednesday Line Up And, Oddly, “Big Sky” Because They Own It

0

Well, meh ratings for established shows won out at ABC over looking for replacements.

The alphabet network renewed “The Conners,” “The Wonder Years,” and “Home Economics” whether we like it or not. They had already renewed “The Goldbergs” despite its star, Jeff Garlin, being gone.

ABC also renewed the soap drama “A Million Little Things” and “Big Sky.” ABC owns the latter show so they’re sticking with it even if no one watches it. Here’s a little twist on that one, however. When “Big Sky” premiered two years ago, Ryan Phillippe was touted as the star. But they killed him off in the first episode. Now they’re bringing in “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles, who looks like a younger Phillippe, for Season 3. I guess ABC increased their budget.

“A Million Little Pieces”– that’s one of those ABC shows you know is there, but knows what’s going on.

All of these shows I liken to furniture filling up a big room. It’s too expensive to buy nice new stuff, so you keep re-covering it and hope no one notices the cushions need to be stuffed.

I used a picture here of John Carroll Lynch and Ryan Phillippe from the first episode of “Big Sky.” They were each killed off — Lynch twice, actually.

Oscars Choose Mid March Date for 2023 as ABC Clearly Wants It Out of Feb Sweeps

The 95th Academy Awards are coming next March.

The Oscars are not returning to the last Sunday in February, however. With lower ratings the show has been clearly moved by ABC out of February sweeps.

The new date is Sunday, March 12th, two weeks earlier than the recent show on March 27th but also two weeks later than the old date.

The Oscar year will still end on December 31st.

Meantime, everyone at all the Oscar prognostication sites is choosing the wrong film, sight unseen, as winner of Best Picture now. And the host? If it’s not Chris Rock, people will be disappointed!

Diddy Takes on NBC: Using Expletives, Demands Travis Scott Appear on Billboard Awards Sunday Despite Astroworld Tragedy

0

Will NBC accede to Sean P Diddy Combs? He’s demanding that rapper Travis Scott appear on the Billboard Awards this Sunday on NBC.

Will NBC go along with it? The Astroworld tragedy resulted in 12 deaths and dozens of injuries. Today a woman who was pregnant and lost her baby in the melee sued Scott, Live Nation, and others. The woman is Shanazia Williamson and she won’t be watching NBC on Sunday night, that’s for sure. She blames Scott for her miscarriage.

On Monday Diddy posted: “I made a request. I made a demand. I said, ‘My brother Travis Scott has to perform,’” the 52-year-old revealed. “I’m executive producing, he has to perform,’ and NBC said ‘yes.’ It’s going down Sunday, Travis Scott will be performing … now that’s love.”

Then yesterday came this video. Look at the rage in his eyes. This is the Sean Combs we don’t see all the time, the one who beat Steve Stoute over the head with a Champagne bottle, who got into a fracas in a NYC nightclub and escaped with Jennifer Lopez.

Combs says in this video: “I’mma do whatever the f-ck I want to do, whenever however the f-ck I want to do it,” he said. “You know why? Cause I’m the freeiest n-gga in the world, end of discussion. Meet me at the Billboard Music Awards, OK. May 15, Live from Las Vegas.”

If NBC and Dick Clark Productions put Travis Scott on that awards show, they are finished. Combs is also intent on having country star Morgan Wallen perform, which makes no sense since Wallen was “cancelled” for using the “N” word in a home video.
I guess we’re really looking forward to Diddy’s return to the music business this summer.

Ratings: “Grey’s Anatomy” Drops to Lowest Numbers of Season, Whopping 23% Down in Younger Viewers

It’s time to talk about “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Last night, as usual, “Law & Order SVU” outdrew the medical soap opera by almost 1 million viewers.

That’s not all. “Grey’s” dropped a whopping 23% in the key demo and 11% in total viewers from last week.

They started the season with 4.758 million viewers. Last night 3.5 million came back to see what was going on.

What’s going on: massive erosion in the 18th season. All the revolving door behavior of actors coming and going, beloved characters randomly dying or disappearing, the toll of all this has finally set in.

So while CBS won the night with “Young Sheldon” and “Ghosts,” NBC was a strong number 2 with its Dick Wolf “Law & Order” night. ABC was in third place. Even “Station 19,” the “Grey’s” spin off which was booming, is starting to collapse. Last night they basically tied with “Law & Order” at 8pm.

What can “Grey’s” do? Put Meredith back in another coma? Bring back Katherine Heigl? A Hail Mary pass is coming.

ElonGate: Musk Puts Twitter Deal on Hold, Stock Drops Almost 8 Percent in Three Hours

0

Elon Musk put his $44 million Twitter on hold this morning. In the three hours since, Twitter stock has dropped almost 8%.

Is this a game of some kind? It sure seems like it.

Musk said he was trying to verify how many Twitter uses are real or fake. Well, that has been determined, and it’s less than 5%. He knows that.

But Musk is getting a lot of blowback about his idea to reinstate Donald Trump and others who incited the January 6th insurrection. He thinks everyone should speak their mind on Twitter no matter if it’s dangerous, cruel, or fake. Let the chips fall where they may!

He’s also apparently against paper straws. In his Twitter feed he’s talked in the last day about missing plastic straws. So this brings up the question of why he invented Tesla, the electric car. Wasn’t to help the environment by ridding us of gas-fueled cars? Plastic straws and bags, etc, much as we miss them, were destroying the planet.

It’s kind of amazing that Tesla is a functioning company, that his Spacex can get a rocket off the ground given all this chaotic behavior.
