Adidas Drops Kanye West for Antisemitism, But Stock Doesn’t Rebound: Too Little, Too Late?

0

Adidas may have taken too long waited too late to renounce Kanye West.

The German company’s stock price did not rebound to where it had been yesterday or, more importantly, last week after West’s antisemitic remarks were first launched.

Adidas sank to around $94 and closed at a little over $100. That’s down $3 from Monday, and off $12 from Friday.

Adidas had already been in decline because of issues with China. But on Friday the stock went off a cliff with their resistance to making a statement about West. The thinking, I’m sure, is that finally acquiescing to public sentiment would rescue the stock. But the public is too smart for that.

What will be interesting is Adidas sales going forward. Will buyers of sneakers drop the brand and turn to New Balance or my favorite, Brooks? Time will tell.

UPDATED With Adidas, CAA, Gap Gone, Pressure is On Universal Music Group to Drop Kanye West from Label

0

UPDATED TUESDAY 2:12PM: I’m told that Kanye’s record contract expired at the end of 2021 and he is no longer signed to UMG. But a more detailed statement may be coming…

EARLIER: Now that Adidas has finally dropped Kanye West from all business partnerships, the pressure is on for his remaining deals to be severed.

West’s talent agency, Creative Artists Agency, also dropped him yesterday. Previously, The Gap and Balenciaga cut ties as well.

West’s response has been to double down on antisemitic rhetoric over the last few days. Among other things, he was cited as the influence for a banner released over the 405 freeway in Los Angeles supporting antisemitism. He may have also been tied in some way to hateful leaflets distributed all over Western Los Angeles.

Now it’s Universal Music Group’s turn. West’s music is released on their Def Jam label. Today, Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of UMG, is the focus as he must end the company’s relationship immediately with West or face similar scrutiny as the other companies.

Keep refreshing…

UPDATE Adidas Ends Partnership with Kanye West Finally After Waiting Too Long

0

In a press statement just now, Adidas has announced the end of its partnership with Kanye West.

The company says in a press release: “Adidas doesn’t tolerate anti-Semitism and some other type of hate speech. Your latest feedback and actions are unacceptable, hateful and harmful, and they’re an organization of variety and inclusion, mutual respect and equity.”

They added:

“After a radical overview, the corporate has determined to instantly terminate the partnership with Ye, stop manufacturing of Yeezy-branded merchandise, and stop all funds to Ye and his firms. Adidas is closing the Adidas Yeezy enterprise efficient instantly. will do.”

The move comes after international outrage that Adidas has taken too long to make this announcement. Stock price has dropped 14% or more since Friday.

The company’s World War II history has become an issue as well, with lots of people suddenly very interested in Adidas’s Nazi background.

Exclusive: Adidas US Marketing Manager Rips Company Over Kanye West: “Until Adidas takes a stand, I will not stand with Adidas”

0

Sarah Camhi is Adidas’s US Marketing Manager headquartered in Oregon. She’s a brave woman, Tonight she’s taken her own company to task for not stepping up and severing ties, or saying anything, about Kanye West’s antisemitic remarks and hate mongering.

Camhi is very brave. She will probably be fired for publishing her statement. But she is to be applauded and commended.

Writing on LinkedIn, Camhi states the following:

“Coming off of the adidas global week of inclusion, I am feeling anything but included.

“As a member of the Jewish community, I can no longer stay silent on behalf of the brand that employs me. Not saying anything, is saying everything.

“It’s been 14 days since Kanye started spewing anti-Semitic rhetoric and adidas has remained quiet; both internally to employees as well as externally to our customers.

“We have dropped adidas athletes for using steroids and being difficult to work with but are unwilling to denounce hate speech, the perpetuation of dangerous stereotypes and blatant racism by one of our top brand partners.

“We need to do better as a brand. We need to do better for our employees and we need to do better for our communities. Until adidas takes a stand, I will not stand with adidas.”

UPDATED Kanye West Antisemitism Controversy Causes Adidas Stock to Drop by 14.5 Percent Since Last Friday, Company Announces Divorce

0

TUESDAY MORNING UPDATE: Adidas has announced its divorce from Kanye West this morning at 7am. Adidas stock price has dropped another 4.2% this morning as of 6:40am to $99.40.

Adidas announcement here.

MONDAY NIGHT: Adidas stock has dropped by 10.5% since last Friday.

The reason: the Germany based sports company has refused to sever ties with Kanye West after his escalation of antisemitic remarks and comments over the last couple of weeks. West has stood his ground claiming that no matter what he says, Adidas can’t fire him. His quote:

“I can say anti-Semitic things, and Adidas can’t drop me. Now what?”

Adidas‘s lawyers may agree with that. But the longer they wait to act, and do something about West, their stock is dropping like a rock. On Friday, the stock price was $115. Yesterday it was down to $103. That’s the story. The stock price was already in a steep decline. Six months ago it was up to $188. But the really steep drop came this past Friday.

What Adidas faces now is a huge public relations problem that only get worse. Across social media, the multinational corporation is being ridiculed as as a “Nazi company.” The whole history of Adidas during World II is being explored and dissected by customers who never gave it a second thought. Decades of trying to wipe their slate clean is being destroyed rapidly.

Taylor Swift Breaks the Record for LP Sales with “Midnights” Four Different Editions

0

Taylor Swift has broken another record — figuratively — for selling records.

“Midnights” has apparently sold almost 500,000 LP copies since its release on Friday. This makes sense– if 100,000 people each purchased all four collectible colored pieces of vinyl, that would make at least 400,000.

So it’s not actually a half million people. It’s more like 125,000 people buying the same record four times. Even so, that’s $100 per person, give or take. Not bad.

When you put the record covers together, you get a picture of a clock. There’s a separate clock mechanism that can be purchased that makes the whole thing into a souvenir. That costs $49.

Adding in CDs and streaming, hitsdailydouble.com is predicting sales between 1 million and 1.5 million by Thursday night. Got that? Swift has at least a mansion in Rhode Island and homes in New York and London. Just sayin’… She knows how to make money, that’s for sure!

Is this album any good: Well, it’s a lot like other Taylor Swift albums. I kind of like the song, “Anti-Hero,” and there are about a half dozen new tunes like “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” that will give it “legs” for a few months.

“Will and Grace” Cast Reacts to Death of Emmy Winning Actor Leslie Jordan, 67, After L.A. Car Crash

0

Actor Leslie Jordan died today in Los Angeles after crashing his car into a building. Jordan suffered some kind of medical emergency. He was 67.

I just saw Jordan at the Hamptons Film Festival two weeks ago. What a tragedy.

Jordan’s co-stars from “Will and Grace” — where he won an Emmy in 2006 — reacted quickly on social media. Sean Hayes wrote: “My heart is broken. Leslie Jordan was one of the funniest people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Everyone who ever met him, loved him. There will never be anyone like him. A unique talent with an enormous, caring heart. You will be missed, my dear friend.”

Eric McCormack Tweeted: “Crushed to learn about the loss of @thelesliejordan, the funniest & flirtiest southern gent I’ve ever known. The joy and laughter he brought to every one of his #WillandGrace episodes was palpable. Gone about thirty years too soon. You were loved, sweet man.”

Jordan’s long list of credits included “The Help,” “Boston Practice” and “Boston Legal,” and “Hearts Afire,” the TV series starring Billy Bob Thornton and Markie Post. There isn’t a year going back three decades that Jordan didn’t amuse audiences on a variety of hit TV shows.

Kanye West Dropped by Top Hollywood Agency Creative Artists (CAA) Over Anti-Semitic Instigation

0

keep refreshing…

Kanye West has been dropped by CAA, Creative Artists Agency, over his instigation of anti-Semitism beginning with his constant hate mongering comments.

CAA is the latest company to break ties with West. I’m hoping Universal Music Group does the same, as soon as possible. We are still waiting for Adidas to end their business relationship.

The LA Times first reported this news.

Variety also reports that their business partner, MRC Productrions, has scrapped a completed documentary about West.

MRC studio executives Modi Wiczyk, Asif Satchu and Scott Tenley announced in a memo Monday:

“This morning, after discussion with our filmmakers and distribution partners, we made the decision not to proceed with any distribution for our recently completed documentary about Kanye West. We cannot support any content that amplifies his platform,” they wrote. “Kanye is a producer and sampler of music. Last week he sampled and remixed a classic tune that has charted for over 3,000 years — the lie that Jews are evil and conspire to control the world for their own gain.”

MRC added: “The silence from leaders and corporations when it comes to Kanye or antisemitism in general is dismaying but not surprising. What is new and sad, is the fear Jews have about speaking out in their own defense.”

In the last few days, both William Morris Endeavor and United Talent Agency also denounced West and all forms of anti-Semitism.

Kim Kardashian, Scooter Braun Issue Vague Statements in Support of Jews, Refuse to Name Kanye West as Instigator

0

Here’s where Kanye West’s associates stand on his stunning hate mongering.

Kim Kardashian, nominally his ex wife, and mother of his children, Tweeted this morning: “Hate speech is never OF or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric toward them to come to an immediate end.”

She does not name Kanye West as the instigator or enabler of many anti-Semitic acts over the weekend. She was, however, photographed having a meal with Ivanka Trump, whose father has also enabled this horrifying behavior.

Meantime, Scooter Braun, who’s been in business with Kanye West, refused to name him in an Instagram post. Instead he posted the text of a famous poem that really doesn’t say anything and also doesn’t mention West. Martin Niemöller was a prominent Lutheran pastor in Germany who was an early Nazi supporter.

It was only after Hitler attacked Protestant values that Niemöller turned against him. He was not Jewish. And while his quote is famous and even highlighted by the Holocaust museum, it does not address anti-Semitism specifically,

I don’t think Braun gets it. “They” will be coming for him unless gets specific. This doesn’t help. If he doesn’t think Kanye West’s rants about anti-Semitism aren’t pointed at him, then he’s really deluded.
