Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter to Star on Broadway in Vladimir and Estragon’s Big Adventure

0

Um, like, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are really going to star in a Broadway play.

The former stars of “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” movies will play Estragon and Vladimir in Samuel Beckett’s classic, Waiting for Godot. Jamie Lloyd will direct.

The production is set for the fall of 2025.

I kid you not.

Of course, this will sell out in minutes.

Producers are The Jamie Lloyd Company, ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live, and Gavin Kalin Productions. 101 Productions, Ltd. will serve as general manager. Bad Robot Live is owned by producer-director JJ Abrams.

Why would he do this to us?

Beckett is rolling over in his grave, that much is understood. How bad can this be? Is it an April Fool’s joke? The last production on Broadway of “Waiting for Godot” starred Sirs Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. I mean, come on.

You want to be hip and say, Hey that sounds good! But really, it doesn’t, and it’s just like making fun of real theater. They have a year to rehearse, I guess.

Losing: Truth Social Stock Continues Steep Price Drop as Trump Continues Racist Attack on Kamala Harris

0

Donald Trump’s Trump Media stock continues its spiral downward today.

The stock, in his Trump’s Truth Social media, is down to $27 in an unstoppable decline. Who would want stock in this company? Truth Social is full of vile and hateful declarations.

The worst poster is Trump himself, whose gag order was continued today in his hush money case by a New York appeals court. He can’t attack anyone associated with the trial or case, so he’s left with calling out Kamala Harris as being ‘not black.’ His performance yesterday at the National Association of Black Journalists was outrageous and disgraceful. You’d think he’d stop but no, Trump is now posting a long ago picture of Harris with Indian members of her family. The smug, despicable convicted felon writes:

“Thank you Kamala for the nice picture you sent from many years ago! Your warmth, friendship, and love of your Indian Heritage are very much appreciated.”

What could be the upside of this racist campaign? Americans are too smart for this. Harris has always described herself as Black and Indian. Regardless, maybe someone will ask when Trump became orange?

Trump is not only racist, he’s misogynist (he hates women). His other Truth Social post today gloats about the fine journalist Norah O’Donnell losing her anchor position on the CBS Evening News.

About O’Donnell, Trump wrote: “So sad that Norah O’Donnell of CBS News lost her show. They had Norah at a “steal” at $12 Million Dollars a year. Will she be doing Deface the Nation anymore, where she was so wonderful? Was she better than the Late, Great Walter Cronkite, also of CBS News? That is the only question left!”

Adam Driver Going Off Broadway in Kenneth Lonergan Play at Tiny Theater This Fall, Chaos Declared

0

You want tickets to this off Broadway show? Fuhgeddabout it.

Adam Driver will star in Kenneth Lonergan’s new play, “Hold on to Me, Darling” at the Lucille Lortel Theater beginning in September. Neil Pepe is directing.

This is a 13 week run that you know will be extended and then move to Broadway if it’s any good.

But tickets? No. They’re already thousands of dollars and they haven’t gone on sale.

Driver plays a country singing superstar who ditches it all and moves back to his hometown in Tennessee. Will he sing? Undoubtedly. No word yet on who wrote the songs.

All along Christopher Street, restaurants will now brace themselves and raise all their prices. Chaos will ensue in the west Village. Lucille Lortel, long deceased, is booking the first five rows for friends. This also means it will very hard to get to the West Side Highway during showtimes.

Pedro Almodovar’s 1st Full Length English Feature to NY Film Fest with Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton

0

The NY Film Festival has its centerpiece film.

Pedro Almodovar’s first full length feature in English, The Room Next Door, stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. It will debut on October 4th at Alice Tully Hall.

The Room Next Door joins the previously announced RaMell Ross’s “Nickel Boys,” the Opening Night selection, and Steve McQueen’s “Blitz,” the Closing Night film of NYFF62.

This will be a hot festival.

The Almodovar film, from his home at Sony Pictures Classics, will be an Oscar contender. Here’s the description: “Ingrid (Julianne Moore), a best-selling writer, rekindles her relationship with her friend Martha (Tilda Swinton), a war journalist with whom she has lost touch for a number of years. The two women immerse themselves in their pasts, sharing memories, anecdotes, art, movies—yet Martha has a request that will test their newly strengthened bond.”

Alessandro Nivola — very hot right now — and the always popular John Turturro co-star.

“SNL” Player Punkie Johnson Announces Not Returning for 50th Season

0

The line up for “SNL” 50th season is getting its first change.

Punkie Johnson, a comic who’s been there since 2020, announced at a omedy show last night she will be back.

An audience member posted on Twitter X: “Punkie is leaving SNL, she said this was fine to share online so I guess twitter is the first to know. It definitely wasn’t a joke either like she’s actually gone and she’s very happy about it.”

Johnson joined the show in 2020, and was promoted to the regular cast in 2022. She didn’t have a lot of screen time even though she was always someone you looked forward to seeing.

Women don’t last at “SNL” unless they quickly establish characters. Sarah Sherman broke out this past year and was included weekly. Ego Nwodim has carved out a spot for herself, too. But think of Melissa Villasenor, who struggled despite being very talented.

Yesterday it was reported that the great Maya Rudolph will return this fall as Kamala Harris. No other changes have been announced yet, although a couple of others may be in the offing. Something tells me Season 50 will see a lot of past hosts and famous cast members returning to goose the ratings.

CBS Evening News Will Become Version of “60 Minutes” Largely White and Male

0

CBS Evening News is anout change big time.

After the Nove elections, the broadcast will become a nightly version of 60

According to reports, there will be no anchor person. Margaret Brennan, John Dickerson, Channel 2 New York’s Maurice DuBois will rotate stories. Jim Axelrod and Steve Hartman will be featured, as well a full time weatherman in Lonnie Quinn.

The CBS Evening News will become largely male and white, a change from its current configuration.

There won’t be a face of Evening News. Norah O’Donnell will make cameo appearances.

The move affects not just the network but also channel 2. Months ago, WCBS removed Dana Tyler and Dick Brennan to elevate Dubois, who’s been in local news for years.

Giving up a main anchor is anathema to CBS News tradition. Cronkite, Rather, Schieffer, even Katie Couric, Jeff Glor, and O’Donnell are among the recent and famous anchors.

But CBS Evening News runs a distant third to ABC and NBC, and recently has been filled with female correspondents. The new CBS ownership obviously didn’t want that anymore, so now we’ll have a three ring circus with almost all men, and DuBois for diversity.

Will it work? No. But they’ll say it will. We’ve all been here before, many times.

More to come…

Great News: WSJ Reporter Evan Gershkovitz Released by Russia, Paul Whelan, Too in Massive Swap

0

There are reports this morning that Russia has released Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovitz, and Paul Whelan, in a massive prisoner exchange.

Gershkovitz was recently sentenced to 16 years in a Russian prison for “Spying.” Whelan, a former US Marine, holds U.S., British, Irish and Canadian citizenship. He was arrested in December 2018 while traveling on an American passport in Russia and also accused of espionage.

The families of both men and all the prisoners who are being released, will be front page news today. Their freedom is a huge story.

It’s also big news for the Biden administration. Donald Trump will not be able to hold this story over the Harris campaign anymore. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has pulled off a coup that will resonate for the rest of the presidential campaign. Bravo!

The full story is on www.dailymail.co.uk. The Journal has yet to report it although their cousin, the New York Post, has. Weird.

Box Office: “Deadpool and Wolverine” Will Hit $300 Mil Thursday Night, Capping a Record Week

0

The record books are being rewritten right now for “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

Shawn Levy’s MAD Magazine send up of Marvel superheroes will start Friday with $300 million, just a week after it opened.

The Ryan Gosling-Hugh Jackman cape comedy already has over $500 million logged worldwide. The $600 million mark also looms on that front for Friday morning.

There is no competition coming any time soon, either. Releases for August are innocuous at best. “D&W” is the last of this summer’s big movies. It has a clear shot through Labor Day. Some films will be of secondary interest. But by and large, it’s a “D&W” month and nothing will get in the way.

The next big studio release is “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” on September 6th, from Warner Bros.

One note: other than “Dune Part Two” we still have no potential Oscar nominees.

Right Wing Pundit Warns Trump, MAGA Not to Use D List Celebs In Their Fight Against Dems’ A Listers

0

Matt Walsh is a conservative right wing pundit who runs the Daily Wire. He’s all in on MAGA and Trump.

In a new post to Twitter, Walsh warns Republicans that it’s useless for them trot out D list celebrities to help their cause.

Walsh is obviously referring to a few things that have just happened. One is Megan Thee Stallion performing at a Kamala Harris rally.

Also, night before last, a bunch of stars including Jeff Bridges and Mark Ruffalo helped the Harris campaign raise $4.4 million on their @DudesforHarris Zoom call that attracted 100,000 participants.

Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and other A list stars are lining up to help Harris and the Democrats. Julia Louis Dreyfus is using social media to support down ballot candidates.More and more of Hollywood is coming out for Harris — although George Clooney, who pushed to get Joe Biden to step away, hasn’t said a thing publicly. What’s up with that?

Walsh warns the GOP and MAGA, probably referring to the dreadful Lee Greenwood, as well as Ted Nugent, Scott Baio, Dennis Quaid, etc:

“Note for Republicans: Kamala has all of the big name entertainers on her side. All of them. And she hasn’t even pulled out the big guns yet (the Taylor Swift rally appearance will happen soon enough). Please do not try to counter this by parading around a bunch of washed up or obscure entertainers that nobody cares about. That just makes us look sad and irrelevant. Best to bow out of the celebrity competition and argue that we should focus on policy instead. It’s the only hand we have to play. It can work, but you undermine it if you make fun of Meghan Thee Stallion and then two days later start fan girling over some third rate celebrity endorsing Trump. We need consistent messaging on this.”

Hollywood: Penske Civil War as Deadline Attacks Variety Reporting of Coppola Scandal Scoop

0

Just when you think you’ve seen everything:

Deadline.com, owned by Jay Penske, is attacking the reporting of sister publication, Variety.

Variety reported last week that “Megalopolis” director Francis Ford Coppola was seen kissing extras on the set of his movie. Variety portrayed this with exclusive video of Coppola planting one on an extra.

Now Deadline.com has gotten to the extra, who’s refuted the whole thing. Reyna Menz says it was all innocent, she’s appalled there was a video, that Coppola’s late wife, Eleanor, was right there.

“He did nothing to make me or for that matter anyone on set feel uncomfortable,” Menz told Deadline. “I felt disgusted, I was blindsided by it because it was a closed set. That someone had video of that is just ridiculous and super unprofessional. It’s gross because he only ever spoke about how wonderful his wife is. His wife was on set with us, most days. It feels gross, seeing that video and they way they were trying to convey a message. Just gross.”

Menska even published a statement on Instagram. (see below)

For Deadline to attack Variety’s journalism in public, that’s more of a Civil War than the movie. After all, they all work in the same building out west. This is going to be a bigger earthquake than anything those people have ever experienced.

Here’s the link to the Deadline story and the Variety story.

What’s the history here? Deadline’s Mike Fleming was invited to the first screening in LA of “Megalopolis.” It was his exclusive, and he was the only journalist there. He raved about it. This was followed by Penske’s Hollywood Reporter reaming the whole thing out, declaring the movie unreleaseable. Then Variety came with the sexual harassment story. Now Deadline has fired back.

Hang on, kids. Only in Hollywood, only in Hollywood!
