Caroline Kennedy’s Son, Jack, Passes the Bar After Graduating Harvard Law School, Yale University

0

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F, Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, is following in his family’s footsteps.

Schlossberg, son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, announced on Instagram that he’s passed the bar examination. He’s a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School.

The new grad is one of the couple’s three children. They have two daughters, as well, Rose and Tatianna.

What will Jack do now? Unlike his cousin, Robert Kennedy Jr., people actually want him to run for office one day. He’s the rare Kennedy with no scandals (cross fingers, never). He spends a lot of time scooting around the Hudson River on a paddle board or in a canoe or kayak, so we know he’s a Kennedy.

The world is his oyster! Let’s hope this is the beginning of a bright future.

“Young and the Restless” Star Eric Braeden Says He’s Being Treated for Bladder Cancer: “I will lick this thing”

Eric Braeden, star of “The Young and the Restless” for 40 years on CBS, says he’s being treated for bladder cancer after a scare with his prostate.

In an emotional video he’s posted to Facebook, Braeden describes what’s been going on with him for the last several weeks. The 13 minute story is compelling even more so because Braeden sounds like he’s other become his character, Victor Newman, or the character was informed by him. Victor Newman is a hubristic billionaire who gets his own way. Braeden, apparently, approached his problem with a similar mood, and the results are a little comical.

None of this should come as a surprise. Back on March 24th, Braeden posted that his surgeon had taken a malignant tumor out of his bladder. He included pictures of himself on a gurney in the hospital.

Braeden is 81, has always worked out, boxed, etc and is still doing so to a lesser degree. He has a great attitude. “I will lick this thing,” he declares, and you know he will. We need Eric Braeden! He’s an avowed liberal, and his Twitter feed — filled with outrage over the Republicans — is an amusing joy to read every day!

Box Office: “Super Mario” Heads to Improbable $400 Mil Today, There Was a Reason Beau Was Afraid

0

Friday box office news:

Improbably, “Super Mario Brothers” will cross the $400 million line today. It made $14 million last night, so another $28 million tonight and tomorrow puts the animated video game movie on its way to $500 million. I hear Luigi is looking for a bigger slice of the streaming pie coming up, while Mario has just bought a house in Beverly Hills for $46 million.

There was reason “Beau” was afraid of posting box office numbers all week. Increasing to 965 theaters on Friday after being just 4 all week, “Beau is Afraid” took in just over $1.1 million. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is just 71%, and the critics rating has dropped to 68%. That’s not too promising for this three hour fever dream of a man, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who’s scared of his mother.

Meanwhile, Guy Ritchie’s “The Covenant,” not to be confused with a half dozen other movies with that name, made $2.5 million last night for a probably $7.5 million weekend. The battle action film has a decent 81 on Rotten Tomatoes, but it may be too intense or violent to cross over into a real hit.

Regis Philbin Turning in His Grave: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Have a 3 Day Work Week on Formerly “Live” Show

0

The late, great Regis Philbin is spinning in his grave.

For years and year, Regis showed up faithfully at 7 Lincoln Square every morning by 8:30am and hosted “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.” Kathie Lee Gifford, too. They did shows five days a week, often holidays. They rarely took vacations or had substitutes in the studio.

But you know, that was a long time ago.

Now “Live with Kelly and Mark” is no longer “live” five days a week. Or four. The married couple, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, are working three days a week. According to the show’s website, “Live” will have just 14 live episodes in May. Each week they will work in three day bunches. On two of those they will tape an extra show.

The whole reason and magic of Regis Philbin’s show was that he and wife Joy, and Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford, were out on the town at least three nights a week. They went to Broadway openings, movie premieres, concerts. They went to cocktail parties where they ran into other famous people. They had adventures. And then the next morning they’d talk about what they did the previous night.

But when Gifford left, the format of the show started to change. The “host chat,” was it was called under Regis’s terms with Kathie Lee and then Kelly Ripa, became one sided on Regis’s part. Ripa had young children and did not go out much. The stories, from past and present, fell to Reege.

Then Regis retired. Ripa was hosting with Michael Strahan. They knew no one in real show business and didn’t really socialize. Little by little the structure of host chat became scripted, with the co-hosts reading prepared stories “found in the newspaper.” It was an utter bore. I turned it off. The whole charm of the show was blown.

Ryan Seacrest, a celebrity born in a mall, succeeded Strahan. He’s a drone who works around the clock and wants to no one to know about his personal life, if he has one. Neither he nor Kelly went anywhere at night. Seacrest’s only anecdotes came from hosting “American Idol” in the late winter and early spring. The host chat was now 90% scripted about who eats pretzels in the bathtub and what to do if your cat starts talking to you. I thought about actually working out in the mornings. (I didn’t do it, don’t worry.)

Now the Conseulos couple has kicked “Live” to the curb. Three days a week only? Regis, I can tell you, is horrified in heaven. He and Dean Martin and Jerry Vale are sitting at a table at Elaine’s. You can hear them down here. “Can you believe it?” Regis is saying. “I built that whole formula. And they’ve destroyed it.”

And you know, people still watch. The ratings are good- 1.2 million average every morning. The age group is young mothers who buy stuff, so the advertisers are happy. There’s no real competition. “Dr. Phil” is leaving the air. “Drew Barrymore” gets half that number. So the show can do whatever it wants.

But what a sad turn of events.

Exonerated Alec Baldwin Starring in A Razzie-Worthy D Movie with Mickey Rourke, Nick Cannon, Tara Reid: Worst Film of All Time?

0

Deadline has this exclusive, and I’m happy to credit them.

Alec Baldwin, Mickey Rourke, Nick Cannon, and Tara Reid have made a movie together. It’s called “Hollywood Heist. A first time director called Mike Hatton was behind the camera.

It’s hard to imagine a worse collection of people in a movie. Was the purpose to shoot a D movie? They’ve certainly accomplished that.

Of course, “Hollywood Heist” could turn out to be a surprise hit. But first you’d have to convince people to see it at all.

And imagine the press interviews. Baldwin is currently being exonerated from involuntary manslaughter charges. Cannon, who went through an antisemitism scandal last year, is fathering children by the dozen. Rourke, whose face is unrecognizable, only appears in D movies. Tara Reid is not exactly Jessica Chastain. She has a resume equal to Rourke’s for the last two decades.

See you at the Razzies!

Cannes Exclusive: Five More Films May Be Added Next Week Including Sean Penn in “Black Flies”

0

Cannes watchers, wait for this Monday. I’m told grand poobah Thierry Fremaux will announce five additional films to his already bursting list of top notch selections.

My sources say one of them will likely be a film called “Black Flies” that features Sean enn and is directed by French filmmaker Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire.

Penn and Sauvaire each have long histories with Cannes, winning many awards apiece.

What else could join Cannes? Fans are hoping for “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer.” Then Fremaux would be riding on a parade float on the Croisette!

Celine Dion Title Track from “Love Again,” Movie She Stars In Playing Herself, is DOA on Charts

0

Dead on arrival: Eight days ago, Celine Dion released a new song called “Love Again.” She hasn’t had a record out in a long time, and in the interim she’s announced she has a serious illness that prevents her from performing live.

But the single flopped upon release. Dion, who’s had dozens of hits and is known around the world, didn’t promote it and no one else did, either. “Love Again” made a brief appearance on the iTunes charts and then vanished into thin air.

The track comes from a movie of the same name opening May 5th starring Sam Heughan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Celine plays herself in the movie, which is being heavily advertised. Along with “Love Again,” there are four other new Celine Dion recordings on the soundtrack.

But so far, the sound of crickets is louder than the famous song belter. Total sales including streaming equivalent for the first six days came to just 229 copies, according to Luminate.

The movie, meantime, sounds like it’s right out of Hallmark or Lifetime. Heughan is a “journalist” who interviews Celine and asks her to help him meet Priyanka, the woman of his dreams. It sounds…familiar. And banal. It should wind up a streaming service pretty fast.

Alec Baldwin Off the Hook as New Mexico DA Drops Charges in Rust Death

0

Alec Baldwin is off the hook. Keystone cops aka the Santa Fe district attorney has dropped involuntary manslaughter charges in the shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

After all that, 18 months, and now they say, Never mind.

The DA never had a criminal case against Baldwin, who never intended to shoot anyone. But redneck justice prevailed. Unbelievable.

Sadly, Hutchins remains dead. Nothing will bring her back.

Jane Goodall, 89, Isn’t Monkeying Around with New Apple TV Series Based on Her Activism

0

Jane Goodall, the iconic conservationist, just turned 89 years young. But that didn’t stop her coming recently to the LA premiere of Apple TV + “Jane”, a family series inspired by her mission of saving savings animals and the environment, premiered recently at the California Science Center where there is an exhibit called ‘Jane’s Endangered Animal Experience.

From Sinking Ship Entertainment, the live action/CGI blended series was created, written and directed by J.J. Johnson.  The indefatigable Goodall told the audience that “This particular show is coming at really good time.  As you all know, we are going through pretty grim times especially environmentally, the number of animals becoming extinct, the forests being destroyed and the oceans being polluted. Many people, especially young people are losing hope.”

Goodall went on to say that, “You get to choose what impact you make, what you buy, wear and eat.  When you think that one person making a difference couldn’t mean anything, but if hundreds, thousands and then millions of people are all making ethical choices then that does change things.  To help people, animals and the environment.  Children are changing their parents and grandparents’ minds.  That’s why a series like this, encouraging young people to become interested in saving animals,  is truly thrilling to be a part of.  I love that in the end of each episode the young actors in character, talk to people that are actually studying and helping to save the animals that are talked about in that episode. A program like this, which shows the power of the individual and that everyone is connected to each other every single day, will hopefully inspire every young person and the adults watching this show all over the world.  I’m very happy to be involved with “Jane.”

J.J. Johnson has done a terrific job indeed with this series.  Each episodes shows tween-aged Jane, played wonderfully by Ava Louise Murchison, who is determined to help save the animals she so dearly loves.  Her sidekick David, a funny, endearing Mason Blomberg, find themselves in their fantasy and reality and in exotic locations, trying to track and save whales, polar bears, tigers bees a, butterflies and more. Jane is named after her idol, Jane Goodall, and boy does she do her homework.  She literally is obsessed with the animal world and the dangers they face and has an almost photographic memory in her quest to help them. Jane’s exasperated but supportive Mom is played sweetly by Tamara Almeida.  Ava plays Jane with poise and grace.  There are cameos, too as the series goes along, Mary-Louise Parker and more. The CGI and effects are spectacular.

Oscar winner Diane Warren, a respected animal activist herself, wrote the theme song “One Step Closer” sung beautifully by the great Leona Lewis.  No wonder Jane Goodall is thrilled to be a part of this series.  “Jane” is a series destined to garner the awards it deserves.  Jane Goodall has said that “Let us develop respect for all living things.”  J.J. Johnson’s “Jane” shows that respect that with deep meaning, whimsical humor and hope for children and adults alike.

“Jane” is now streaming on Apple TV +

Legendary Singer Songwriter Graham Nash Calls Out Virginia Governor for Rejecting Federal Funds to Get Guns Out of Dangerous Hands

Last night, just before intermission during his sold out show at the Birchmere Music Hall, legacy singer songwriter Graham Nash announced his support for the gun violence prevention nonprofit, Safer Country. Nash called out Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin for rejecting $5 million in federal funds allocated for our state to get guns out of dangerous hands.  The funds are available due to enactment of the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

Nash learned about Safer Country from his fellow famed musician, Judy Collins, who’s spoken out in support of the group at her shows. Safer Country alerted Nash to Youngkin’s latest affront to gun safety so Nash– an outspoken activist–invited Executive Director Paul Friedman to have an informational table at Tuesday night’s and Wednesday night’s shows. Its flyer highlights Youngkin’s refusal.  It also calls for the public to demand he accepts and uses those funds. After Nash’s announcement, Safer Country was inundated with requests for information.

In talking about Youngkin, Nash said to rousing applause, “People are what they do. It’s not what they say, it’s what they do.”

Commenting later, Friedman (transparency alert: this is my brother, doing God’s work) said that, “Having Graham Nash call out Gov. Glenn Youngkin for turning his back on protecting the lives of men, women, and children in Virginia could bring it the critical attention this issue needs.”
