Kelly Ripa Forgets to Thank Regis Philbin, Michael Gelman, or Agnes Nixon While Getting Disney Legend Award

0

Kelly Ripa was given a Disney legend award this weekend at the company’s D23 corporate confab.

In her speech she thanked a few people including Bob Iger, Dana Walden, husband Mark Consuelos, and her best friend Ryan Seacrest.

Somehow she forgot Regis Philbin, her longtime producer Michael Gelman, or Agnes Nixon, creator of “All My Children.”

We know she didn’t like Regis — she’s said so ungraciously over and over. She didn’t like him because he was a legend, an old guy who she just didn’t get. When Regis was forced to retire he never heard from Ripa again, was never invited back to the show he created.

“All My Children” creator Nixon plucked her out of oblivion to play David Canary’s daughter on the beloved soap. Gelman? He’s stood offstage producing her for over 20 years. If Ripa has anyone to thank, it’s him. A less tolerant producer would have tossed her years ago.

But hey — it’s easy to forget these things when you’ve made millions upon millions.

We don’t forget.

Trump Says on Social Media If Elected He’ll “Fix” The NY Times, Also Keeps Insisting on Debates Not Scheduled

0

Donald Trump says today on his Truth Social that he will “fix” the New York Times if elected this fall.

How will he do that? An Executive Order to wipe out the First Amendment? After all, he’ll be a self-predicted dictator, so why not?

Trump also keeps insisting that he’s going to debate Kamala Harris on dates and on networks that have never been agreed upon.

The only debate that Harris has acknowledged is September 10th on ABC. Trump thinks they’re meeting on Fox News on September 4th. And later on NBC with Lester Holt. What will he do when he’s there alone? To just keep saying it won’t make it so.

Box Office: After Lively Opening Night, “It Ends With Us” Takes $50 Million Weekend

Here’s a new equation for the box office.

A huge opening night followed by two nights that equaled the first.

In regular box office, you’d hope for three days in a row that are roughly similar.

But “It Ends with Us” had a $24 million Thurs-Friday, followed by a $13 million Saturday and $12 million Sunday.

The $50 million total is nevertheless a bonanza for director Justin Baldoni and Sony, and star Blake Lively. “It Ends with Us” is the “Deadpool and Wolverine” of domestic abuse movies. Still, the latter finished first for the weekend, narrowly, with $54 million.

But doesn’t this make Lively and Ryan Reynolds the homecoming queen and king of the summer? They’re a real life Barbenheimer! Weeks and weeks of intense publicity, worth at least $50 million, culminated in this astonishing feat.

What’s left PR wise? Hugh Jackman, at least, will show up at the Monday night premiere for “Once Upon a Mattress” starring his “Music Man” leading lady Sutton Foster. Maybe he’ll bring Ryan along, too. That will pretty much squeeze the orange dry for summer 2024.

Let’s see if the negative publicity about Baldoni vs. Lively has an impact this week. “It Ends with Us” should have a productive Monday and Tuesday, but you never know. There’s not much else to see in the adult category.

Not much else in new showing except for “Borderlands.” The Eli Roth-directed video game adaptation starring Cate Blanchett took in $8.8 million. This was very wide release, so the game is over. It’s Blanchett’s lowest open, but also Kevin Hart’s. (Did you ever think those two would be in the same movie?) The comedy star must be having a Hart Attack looking at those numbers!

Cate Blanchett “Borderlands” Box Office Bomb with $9 Mil Opening, Cost $115 Million

0

A magic number for Eli Roth’s “Borderlands” is 10.

The video game adaptation will make less than $10 million this weekend.

On Rotten Tomatoes, only 10% of critics liked it.

Two time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett stars in this mess that cost $115 million.

Someone will have to pay that bill. Lions Gate? “Horizon” actually looks like a hit by comparison. (No, just kidding.) The executive producer is Avi Arad, who gave us “Ghost in the Shell” and “Punisher.” Another one of the EPs is Harold Strauss Zelnick, who made music mogul Clive Davis a mega star by trying to chase him out of BMG Records in 2000. Zelnick was fired. Davis, 92 now, has zoomed to higher heights.

What went wrong here? Everything, starting with making a movie from a video game. It’s not recommended, rarely works out.

Well, GAME OVER. And not a good look for Blanchett, who told Andy Cohen on TV the other night she made no money from “Lord of the Rings.” Blanchett has the most powerful agents in Hollywood. So, let’s say she was just joking. If all she got was sandwiches, they were stuffed with caviar.

Box Office: Blake Lively Tops Husband Ryan Reynolds as “It Ends With Us” Beats “Deadpool and Wolverine” On Opening Night

0

Headlines will today read Blake Lively beats husband Ryan Reynolds at box office.

Lively stars in Justin Baldoni’s “It Ends with Us” based on the lowbrow novel by Colleen Hoover. The film made $24 million on its opening including $7 million from Thursday previews.

Ryan Reynolds — Lively’s hubby — stars in “Deadpool and Wolverine.” It made $15.7 million on Friday night. Shawn Levy directed the Marvel satire of superhero movies.

Of course, “D&W” has already taken in over $450 million, so Friday’s finish is irrelevant. But it’s a good publicity hook for the Baldoni movie.

It’s a better publicity hook than the other story that involves all these people. Apparently, Lively and Baldoni clashed during the making of their film. She asked Reynolds to rewrite scenes, which was a surprise to the “Ends” screenwriter. Baldoni came to the New York premiere, but took no pictures or did any press with his cast. He wasn’t invited to any of the international premieres, where Lively has been front and center.

Baldoni also told an interviewer that he won’t be directing the inevitable sequel because he said Lively could direct it herself. Backstage, it seems, Baldoni has been eliminated from the equation.

Will “End” continue to stare down Marvel all weekend? Unclear, but ticket sales last night were ferocious. Stay tuned…

Trump Attacks NY Times Reporter “Maggot Hagermann” After Willie Brown Copter Story Debunked

0

You can’t make this up.

This morning Donald Trump attacks New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, calling her “Maggot Hagerman.”

He’s like six year old who needs punishment like having his mouth washed out with soap. The Times separately reported that behind closed doors Trump calls Harris a “bitch.”

Trump is mad because Haberman among others has disproved his story about being on a helicopter with former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown, who he says told him — as the copter was crashing — “terrible things about Kamala Harris.”

Brown says this never happened. Then there was the thinking that Trump meant Jerry Brown, then governor of California. But that never happened. Trump says he has the flight records, but, as with his taxes and grades from college, can’t produce them.

Last night in Montana, Trump spoke to a very empty arena of followers and made no sense. Harris and Tim Walz filled an arena in Arizona.

Charts: Taylor Swift Bests Kanye West Again, Beating Longtime Rival Handily for Number 1 with 4 Month Old Album

Katy Perry Goes for a Straight Up Dance Club Hit With “Lifetimes” After Striking Out with “Woman’s World”

Katy Perry takes a different tack with her new single, “Lifetimes.”

She goes for a straight up dance club after striking out with “Woman’s World.”

So far she’s got 1 million views on the video, which was released last night. The song is at number 3 on iTunes, which is a good beginning.

Katy’s album, “143,” will be out next month.

Rod Stewart Latest Rock Star to Get COVID, Postpones Shows for a Week

0

Even Rod Stewart, a rock deity, can get COVID.

Sir Rod has postponed his shows this weekend for a week and says he’ll resume work on August 18th.

Rod gave some interviews recently saying he “knew his days were numbered” or something like that because he was turning 80. Then he book a bunch of shows for 2025, so he’s not going anywhere.

Some guys have all the luck, and except for COVID, Rod Stewart has a lot of it. Now take some time off, Rod. We want to see you out there a long time!

Charts: Taylor Swift Bests Kanye West Again, Beating Longtime Rival Handily for Number 1 with 4 Month Old Album

0

UPDATED Kanye West will probably not like this news.

His “Vultures 2” album came in at 82,845 albums.

That’s around 60,000 fewer than Taylor Swift’s “Tortured Poets Department.” Swift finishes at number 1 with a four month old album while West is a distant second.

It probably doesn’t help that “Vultures 2” was offered for free on West’s website. After a strong start at number 1, “Vultures 2” is at number 4 on iTunes. It’s available for streaming and downloading, but there’s no physical product.

“Vultures 2” has also not given birth to any single tracks. The album has no streaming of individual songs.

The crazier part of this story is that Swift sold almost three times as many albums as West. His were from downloads. Hers were from downloads and CDs, and LPs.

Kanye knows he’s not going to the Grammys next winter. But maybe he’ll turn up and protest Swift winning Album of the Year yet again. So far, that seems to be the story of the 2025 Grammys, same as the 2024 Grammys. And many others.

Cate Blanchett’s Video Game Movie “Borderlands” Up to 6% on Rotten Tomatoes, $1.2 Mil in Previews

0

“Borderlands,” starring Cate Blanchett, has finally risen on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Eli Roth-directed video game adaptation started with a Zero yesterday. It’s now up to 6%.

Last night, “Borderlands” made an astonishing $1.2 million in previews. Considering that RT’s Audience Score is only 49%, that’s pretty good.

But it does indicate that whoever saw it last night satisfied their curiosity.

This is Blanchett’s worst reviewed movie by far. It’s hard to imagine the two Oscar winner took this job, but maybe the paycheck was too much to pass up.
