Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 34 Year Run on Broadway Will End June 4th When “Bad Cinderella” Closes

0

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has been represented on Broadway with some show since 1979.

But that will end June 4th when his flop musical, “Bad Cinderella,” closes. The musical played only to 54% capacity last week after receiving no Tony nominations. Reviews have been extremely negative. No one is going.

The end of Lloyd Webber’s run follows the recent closing of “Phantom of the Opera” after 35 years.

From “Jesus Christ Superstar” to “Phantom” to even a good show like “School of the Rock,” ALW has been a force to reckon with on Broadway. He may yet return with a new hit show. But for now, an era is over.

Fox News Snooze: Kayleigh McEnany Second Night Replacing Tucker Carlson Falls Another 10%

0

Kayleigh McEnany is the enemy as far as Fox News viewers go.

Replacing Tucker Carlson at 8pm for the second night, McEnany fell in the ratings by another 10%. She went from 1.55 million viewers to 1.4 million. The numbers are dropping quickly at 8pm.

McEnany is annoying, and Fox News doesn’t care. This way, whoever gets the spot eventually will be written as “a big improvement” over Kayleigh. So that’s funny.

I’m told the permanent replacement for Carlson will “a safe choice,” no one explosive, for the time being. That could be Brett Baier, maybe. Another place holder until someone really crazy and bigoted rises to the top.

Beatlemania: George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun” Hits 1 Billion Streams on Spotify, Only Classic Era Song on List

0

It’s no surprise, but the Beatles are now the only classic rock group or artist to have a song with 1 billion streams on Spotify.

The song is “Here Comes the Sun” by George Harrison, and it hit the market yesterday.

No other classic era artist can boast this. Not Pink Floyd, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, or even Elvis Presley.

Many contemporary artists have 1 billion, but their careers from the Spotify era. Older purchasers of music bought their records a long time ago. If they’re refreshing their collections, it’s on CD or vinyl, and in box sets.

It’s a little ironic that of the four Beatles, George is the winner. Lennon and McCartney wrote most of the songs. They didn’t really take Harrison’s songs until the second half of their time together. When the Beatles disbanded, George then became a force in his own right with a lot of hits starting with “My Sweet Lord.”

“Here Comes the Sun” comes from the Beatles’ “Abbey Road,” the band’s best selling album.

12 Years a Documentary: Steve McQueen’s Non Fiction Film About Amsterdam During Nazi Occupation is Over 4 Hours Long

0

The schedule for Cannes 2023 is here, and it’s very exciting.

The Festival has bricked in Saturday night, May 20th, with Martin Scorsese’s three hour “Killers of the Flower Moon,” followed by Todd Haynes’s “May December.” It’s basically a six hour evening.

There’s an hour in between for a croque monsieur and a splash of wine.

On the 22nd, HBO is screening Sam Levinson’s “The Idol,” starring The Weeknd, at 10:30pm. It’s late, but at least it’s actually on the weekend.

And there’s Steve McQueen’s “Occupied City.” This may be known as 12 Years a Documentary. It’s over four hours long. “Occupied City” won’t be uninteresting. It’s about the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam during World World II– you know, what was going on outside while Anne Frank, her family, and friends were inside. It sounds more like a four hour series, a la McQueen’s “Small Axe,” which really comprised five films including the magnificent “Mangrove.”

It’s unclear if there’s an intermission, or snack and bathroom time. Pillows are optional.

Kayleigh McEnany Takes Over Fox News 8pm Slot and Loses 700,000 Viewers from Lead in Jesse Watters

On Monday at 8pm, former Trump mouthpiece and inveterate liar Kayleigh McEnany took over the 8pm slot on Fox News. That was Tucker Carlson’s show.

Total viewers for this ridiculous person: 1.5 million. Total viewers for the preceding show, hosted by bloviator Jesse Watters: 2.2 million.

McEnany lost 700,000 viewers the minute she arrived on the air.

Her show did some damage to Sean Hannity, who followed at 9pm with 1.9 million. Even though 400,000 people returned to Fox after Kayleigh’s show, Hannity was down again from pre-Dominion reveal highs. Hannity’s audience has been eroded and he’s now regularly losing to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. But Fox News 8pm has been destroyed.

Tucker Carlson Says He Has a New Show on Twitter, Elon Musk Says They Have No Deal

0

Tucker Carlson posted this video to Twitter making it seem like he has some kind of deal with Elon Musk. (I guess he couldn’t find a job.)

Musk says there is no deal, Carlson is just another content creator and subject to community rules.

If you loathe Carlson as much I do, you can pick up the pertinent part of this announcement at 2:05.

Carlson thinks he’ll make money from ads. Musk should keep a close eye on him. Carlson is a liar and conspiracy theorist. He could drive people away from Twitter, fast.

MTV News Cancelled After 36 Years As Paramount Cuts 25% of Workforce, Follows End of Buzz Feed News

Little by littler delivery systems for the news are going away.

Last week BuzzFeed News announced it was shutting down.

This afternoon Paramount cut 25% of its workforce and cancelled MTV News after 36 years.

When MTV was relevant to young people in the 80s and 90s, MTV News brought the world to its audience. Kurt Loder was the most prominent reporter, but there were plenty of others including Tabitha Soren, Serena Altshul, John Norris, Alison Stewart. This was a time when MTV was important in politicizing new voters, young adults 18 to 25. MTV News was cool, so candidates wanted to appear in town halls, and so on.

But MTV has been whittled down to a shadow of its former self. No one is watching it for news, but instead reality shows about inane subjects.

Paramount is merging everything it can, starting with Showtime and Paramount Plus, as well as MTV and all its affilated channels. Already VH-1 has been spun off to BET, which they’re trying to sell.

Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks president Chris McCarthy said in a statement sent to the staff. It’s ironic reading it after, on Sunday’s episode of “Succession,” we saw Cosin Greg and Tom lay off a huge number of people via Zoom.

Team:

As we finalize the integration of SHOWTIME and continue to transform our business for the future, we have set a great foundation for continued success by consolidating our group into two functions:

• Studios – integrating SHOWTIME and MTV Entertainment Studios into one powerful studio team
• Networks – combining nine separate teams into one portfolio group

This combination has resulted in an incredible track record of hits including Yellowstone, 1883, Tulsa King, South Park, The Challenge, Teen Wolf, 1923, Drag Race, Mayor of Kingstown, Your Honor, George & Tammy and Yellowjackets – which, taken together, drove record subscribers across Paramount+ and Showtime and helped Paramount+ lead the industry in new subscriber growth.

However, despite this success in streaming, we continue to feel pressure from broader economic headwinds like many of our peers. To address this, our senior leaders in coordination with HR have been working together over the past few months to determine the optimal organization for the current and future needs of our business.

As a result, we have made the very hard but necessary decision to reduce our domestic team by approximately 25%. This is a tough yet important strategic realignment of our group. Through the elimination of some units and by streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward. Today we will notify employees whose positions are being impacted with leaders communicating the news directly to those teams/or individuals. These meetings will be followed by individual 1:1s with our HR partners. ADVERTISEMENT

I realize these decisions will be very hard for everyone, most of all, those who will be leaving. It’s not something we take lightly. We have some of the most passionate and dedicated team members, who bring their full selves to drive our brands and business forward. This is why it’s so difficult to say goodbye to our friends and colleagues. To those impacted, we deeply appreciate the passion and creativity you have brought every day. I want to thank you for your many contributions.

Our leadership team and HR partners are committed to ensuring this process is done with empathy and respect.

Sincerely,
Chris

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: Sequel to Beloved Film Coming in 2024 with Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, and Winona Ryder (?)

0

Lydia Deetz, the kooky hero of “Beetlejuice,” had a daughter. In a sequel to the beloved movie, that girl will be played by Jenna Ortega of “Wednesday” fame. It was casting that had to happen!

Michael Keaton will return for the 2024 movie. Winona Ryder? Geena Davis? Alec Baldwin? How could they not? More “Day O”? Yes, please.

Tim Burton returns as director. Cross fingers this is the best sequel of all time!

PS This is a good time to make the movie. Keaton is hot as Batman again, Ortega is hot, and “Beetlejuice The Musical” has been a favorite on Broadway.

Donald Trump First Ever US President to Be Found of Sexual Abuse, Defamation, E. Jean Carroll Awarded $5 Million, “No” on Rape, Trump Guilty of Malice, Injury

E. Jean Carroll has been awarded $5 million by a New York jury in her claims of rape and defamation from Donald Trump.

The jury agreed with allow of Carroll’s claims except for actual rape. But it’s a first for a former US president. How anyone could vote for or support this man is beyond belief.
