Trump At South Dakota Rally: Did He Freeze Up, Doze Off, or Have a Reverie with Strange Pause in Speech?

0

Donald Trump spouted off his usual nonsense yesterday in South Dakota at a rally of his supporters.

But this video shows he came to an abrupt stop in the middle of his thoughts. Did he freeze up like Mitch McConnell did recently? Is he having a sudden flashback, a reverie to a time before his four indictments? It looks a little like he dozed off.

Trump also looks like he’s tearing up. He’s been exposed for over stating his wealth by $3 billion and had to sell a New York golf course to pay legal fees which are now mounting quickly. His Truth Social is also in financial trouble and his number of vicious attacks there has slowed down to a trickle.

But what is this? It looks for several excruciating seconds….

Toronto Review: Tony Goldwyn Directs Bobby Cannavale in His Best Role Yet in “Ezra” with Robert De Niro, Rose Byrne

0

Tony Goldwyn makes his living as a terrific actor (he’s in “Oppenheimer” right now) but I think his true love is directing. Many years ago he directed Viggo Mortensen in a breakout role in “A Walk on the Moon,” a charmer that holds up very well.

Tonight in Toronto we got to see Goldwyn’s latest called “Ezra” about a high functioning autistic kid in Hoboken, New Jersey who’s torn between his divorcing parents. The boy who plays Ezra, William Fitzgerald, is a find that allows the movie to work beautifully. But is the movie really about Ezra or his father, a comedian and comic writer named Max Bernal who’s a little on the spectrum himself. Max is played by Bobby Cannavale in the tour de force performance we’ve been waiting for.

Cannavale has a long list of fine credits from movies like “The Station Agent” and “Blue Jasmine,” not to mention the failed HBO series, “Vinyl.” He’s always just about to break out himself. Max is the character he needed, a kind of modern day Lenny Bruce who continually torpedoes his career but is devoted to Ezra above all else. In this scenario, a little like “Rain Man,” Max takes Ezra on the run to save him from being over medicated by doctors who think he might be a danger to himself. “Ezra” is also a bit of a road movie, too. What sets it apart is Tony Spiradakis’s often very funny and humane script, Goldwyn’s directing, and cinematography from Danny Moder (real life husband of Julia Roberts).

But then there’s that cast. Rose Byrne (she and Cannavale are married in real life) effortlessly plays Ezra’s mother and Max’s ex wife who has her own uniquely deep relationship with the boy. Robert De Niro — in his best non-gangster performance since “Silver Linings Playbook” — is Max’s father who has a lot of regrets about their relationship as well. He and Cannavale are gangbusters together. But the heart of the movie is Max and Ezra. Their sweet interaction is so genuinely moving that it reminded me of Joaquin Phoenix in “C’mon C’mon” but even more authentic.

Spiridakis has been a favorite New York indie screenwriter and actor for a long time. Here he’s writing from experience — he has two high functioning sons who are adults although he never kidnapped them or broke the law. Goldwyn — they’ve been friends for 40 years — says Spiridakis has been working on different versions of this screenplay for 12 years. The result is gold for everyone. “Ezra” is looking for distribution here. Apple Studios comes to mind since they did such a nice job on “CODA.” This movie, like that one, is a deceptively family friendly film with a lot of hidden undercurrents.

Jimmy Buffett Estate Announces Posthumous Album 8 Days After Singer’s Death, Drops Two New Singles

0

Jimmy Buffett died on September 1st.

Eight days later his family has announced a posthumous album to be released on November 3rd. It’s called Equal Strain on All Parts.

A single called “Bubbles Up” dropped Thursday night.

These people were so organized they even sent out a quote from Buffett’s friend, Paul McCartney explaining the title. They also put up a second song featuring McCartney called “My Gummie Just Kicked In.”

Paul said, “He turned a diving phrase that is used to train people underwater into a metaphor for life when you’re confused and don’t know where you are just follow the bubbles – they’ll take you up to the surface and straighten you out right away.”

It used to be you’d have to wait for posthumous material for a few months after the death a star. But I guess the thinking now is, Strike while the iron is hot!

And it is” Jimmy Buffett today has 14 titles on the iTunes top 100 albums. He has 11 singles on that chart including “Bubbles Up,” which is number 3.

You see, this is how got to be a billionaire. Leave no stone unturned!

Trump Thinks It’s a Bad Thing to Have “Fewer Pollutants in the Air,” Complains About Electric Tanks

Presented for your enjoyment.

Donald Trump lives in a kind of upside down bizarro world. Overnight he ranted on social media that electric Army trunks are a bad thing because they result in fewer pollutants in the air. This is apparently a negative. We should have more pollutants in the air, I guess!

Hilarious and sad that a whole human being has been wasted, especially the brain.

Exclusive: Cher Reunion with Darlene Love for 60th Anniversary of Christmas Song May Unseat Mariah Carey on Charts

0

This November marks the 60th anniversary of the release of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Darlene Love.

Yes, it was 1963.

The song became an anthem and Darlene Love was coronated the Queen of Christmas. She’s performed it every year since then. For about 25 years in a row she sang it on David Letterman’s talk show ith Paul Shaffer leading the band.

You may not know this but among the then unknown stars on the original Phil Spector recording was Cher. She’s singing lead back up and you can hear very clearly. (You can also hear Darlene’s sister, Edna Wright, who went on to fame with her group, The Honey Cone, and “Want Ads.”) Also on that legendary record: Sonny Bono playing drums, Leon Russell on keyboards, and Hal Blaine on drums.

Wow!

So now today Cher released the cover of her upcoming Christmas album, but no track info. But I can tell you that this summer Cher and Darlene recorded a 60th anniversary version of the song, this time with both of them on leads. The new “Baby Please Come Home” will be on Cher’s Christmas album, which is great for her and Darlene and bad news for Mariah Carey.

Mariah, of course, thinks she’s the Queen of Christmas because of her perennial hit, “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Every year, it’s number 1. But this blockbuster from Darlene and Cher should be a grand slam home run. The combination of these power voiced Spector divas on their 60th anniversary version? Magic!

Leah Remini Statement on Danny Masterson Sentence: “I am relieved that this dangerous rapist will be off the streets”

0

Actress Leah Remini has been a hero in her fight against Scientology. Even though journalists had been writing about the cult for years, it was only when Remini left and exposed the inner workings that the truth was laid bare. She is currently suing Scientology for kidnapping her after Tom Cruise’s wedding to Katie Holmes. Leah speaks truth to power.

Here is her statement after today’s sentencing of Danny Masterson for 30 years.

AMC Theaters Stock Drops Like Rock Despite Taylor Swift Ticket Sales: Down $5 in 24 Hours

0

It’s been a miserable 24 hours for AMC Entertainment.

Since yesterday at this time, the stock price has dropped 5 bucks to an all time low of $8.30.

On August 14th the price was $52.70. That day it dropped $18.

This is despite a booming summer with Barbenheimer– “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”

This is all despite their unique deal for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie which is sold out and looks to make $100 million on its opening weekend.

The drop — to its lowest point ever — comes because AMC announced plans to sell up to 40 million common shares today. The company said it will use the proceeds in part to bolster liquidity and pay down debt.

Scientology Loses Big Time as “70s Show” Star Danny Masterson Gets 30 Year Sentence for Rape

0

“That 70s Show” star was sentenced to 30 years in prison just now for rape in a Los Angeles courtroom/

Masterson was convicted in May on two of three forcible rape charges. The Scientology member was accused of raping three women at his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003 — while he was appearing on “That 70’s Show.” The jury convicted him of raping two women in 2003, but didn’t reach a verdict on an allegation from November 2001 involving a former girlfriend.

The sentencing– two sentences of 15 years each — and the verdict are blows to Scientology, which did everything to support Masterson. But this trial pierced the veil of secrecy in the cult. Leah Remini, their chief critic now suing Scientology herself, was at the sentencing. So was Masterson’s beleaguered wife, Bijou Phillips, and her brother in law, Billy Baldwin who’s married to sister Chyna Phillips. Bijou Phillips’ life so far has consisted of unending challenges. Maybe this will propel her away from Masterson and the cult.

Jerry Seinfeld Says Rolling Stone Story Untrue That He Was Angry at Jimmy Fallon: “This is so stupid”

0

There’s a new level of malevolence at Rolling Stone magazine. They spend a lot of time acting like faux Keith Morrisons at Dateline. The once vaunted music and politics periodical now spends a lot of time trying to find trivial dirt anyone to tarnish their image, or hopefully, destroy them.

Now it’s Jimmy Fallon’s turn for a backstage toxicity story. They say they’ve interviewed 16 former staffers who a variety of complaints against Fallon including that he’s mean to them, gives them dirty looks, and snatches their lollipops whenever possible.

One anecdote in the story is about Jerry Seinfeld disapproving of Fallon’s behavior. Seinfeld completely refuted it in a statement supplied to me by NBC.

“This is so stupid. I remember this moment quite well… I teased Jimmy about a flub, and we all had a fun laugh about how rarely Jimmy is thrown off. It was not uncomfortable at all. Jimmy and I still occasionally recall it and laugh. Idiotic twisting of events.”

We’ve reached a level of crybaby complaints now six years after #MeToo in is which everyone who has a gripe against a celebrity, particularly an employer, becomes clickbait. Ironically, this is what Seinfeld’s Festivus is for — the airing of grievances. The complainers used to be called whiners. The so called journalists should be spending their time on more important matters.

But just to circle back a bit: If the writer of this piece had watched “The Larry Sanders Show” or “Mrs. Maisel” or the great Richard Benjamin movie, “My Favorite Year,” maybe they’d be more sophisticated about how a talk show runs. Or any daily or nightly show. Regis Philbin was treated like dirt by Joey Bishop; he became a bigger star. Is this whole business ‘woke’? I don’t know. But I’m tired of it. It’s time for everyone to grow up.

As for Rolling Stone, how about 10.000 words on Jann Wenner and the corrupt awful way he ran that magazine for decades? Nah. We won’t be seeing excerpts from the books by Robert Draper or Joe Hagan. Jimmy Fallon is a cupcake by comparison.

Diddy So-called Solo Album Has 25 Featured Guests Including Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, The Weeknd’s “Final” Collaboration

0

Sean Combs is the Ed Sullivan of rap. And he’s about to have a really big ‘shoo.’

Next Thursday, Diddy aka Love aka Puff Daddy will release his Off the Grid album. It’s a solo record except there are 25 featured guests who sang or wrote the songs.

The guests include Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Babyface and The Weeknd. With the latter, Diddy says it’s Abel Tesfaye’s last ever duet with anyone. Is it really? Probably not, but it sounds good.

The Weeknd needs a hit after his terrible TV series, “The Idol,” was cancelled by HBO. Tesfaye released a lot of music during the summer that no one wanted. It’s hoped his fans will come running back.

Bieber’s song is called “Moments.” It might be his first since possibly chucking manager Scooter Braun. Or it’s still on Braun’s contract. Maybe there will be some clarity there. Bieber hasn’t had a hit record on which he alone sings with no guests upstaging him. Maybe this is his Moment!

I have a good feeling about “Off the Grid.” Combs is a savvy marketer. My guess is he’s got a bunch of hits on there, and he’ll be demanding Grammy nominations, that’s for sure!
