Sports Illustrated Entire Staff Laid off by Publisher: Magazine Seems to Be Coming to An End, Last Post Was at 12 Noon ET

0

This Tweet was just posted by writer Richard Deitsch of The Athletic.

Sports Illustrated’s entire staff is being laid off. This is shocking even in a time of media companies contracting and laying off staff.

The last post to the SI Twitter feed was at 12 Noon Eastern.

Jamie Salter is the CEO of Authentic Brands Group, which bought SI from Meredith Corporation after they bought it from what used to be the Time Life company. Almost every bit of the legendary Time Life organization has been destroyed, which is totally shocking to journalists over the age of 40. They were the gold standard for journalism and media.

Alec Baldwin Charged Again in Halyna Hutchins Case: Two Counts Again of Involuntary Manslaughter in “Rust” Film Shooting

0

“Rust” never sleeps.

Alec Baldwin has been charged for a second time in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Baldwin has been charged again with counts of involuntary manslaughter. Previously he’d been charged but then those charges were dropped.

Hutchins was shot in October 2021 by a prop gun in Baldwin’s hand on the Santa Fe, New Mexico set of a low budget film called “Rust.” The gun also shot director Joel Souza but the wound in his arm was not fatal.

“The above named defendant did cause the death of Halyna Hutchins by an act committed with the total disregard of indifference for the safety of others,” the indictment says.

If convicted Baldwin could face 18 months in prison. A trial for Hannah Guitierrez, who worked on the set and took care of the guns, is already set for A trial is scheduled to start Feb. 21, 2024 in Santa Fe.

Here is a copy of the indictment.

Ratings: NBC “Law & Order” Return Wins the Night, With Classic, SVU 25th Anniversay Scoring Big Time, “Organized Crime” Falls Off

0

The NBC Thursday “Law & Order” return was a big hit.

Last night, classic “L&O,” “SVU,” and “Organized Crime” returned for the first time since last spring.

NBC won the whole night with an average of 4.8 million viewers. The number would have been higher but “Organized Crime” fell off and pulled the other two shows down.

Classic “L&O” pulled in 5.1 million fans at 8pm with a controversial episode ripped from the headlines about Palestinians and Jews in New York.

“SVU” followed at 9pm with 5.5 million in the first of a two parter for their 25th anniversary. The cliffhanger will conclude next week. Kelli Giddish returned as Det. Amanda Rollins as a guest star but not to full time status. I gave the show some press because I thought she was back after her being laid off last year. I wonder if the high number came from fans hoping she was back, too. We’ll see how the season proceeds.

“Organized Crime” is the problem. Their 10pm number dropped to 4 million, and then to 3.6 million at 10:30pm. NBC only ordered a half season, so that’s what we’ll see. But after that? This may be the end for this spin off.

NBC benefited from the other networks still being in reruns, but that will change soon.

Bliss: Green Day Saves Rock and Roll with Pungent, Pressing, Punk, Pugnacious New Album “Saviors”

0

Frenzied and fun, full of pugnacious pop and lilting lyrics, Green Day’s “Saviors” is perfectly titled.

It’s January 19th and we have the album of 2024. I could listen to this over and over, and I will.

This is my thank you note to Green Day. I didn’t think I’d ever like a new album again in my lifetime. But this is it. There are real rockers here, with instrumental breaks, but set at the speed of New Wave circa 1980. And there are ballads, too. “Father to a Son” is remarkably poignant.

I’m listening now to “Suzie Chapstick.” The title is interesting because it;s a throw back title, like “Bobby Sox,” “Corvette Summer,” and “1981.”

Also, get out the lyric sheet. Green Day’s best album, “American Idiot,” was turned into a hit Broadway musical. The same could be done here, easily, except that it’s a short short album at 46 tight minutes. “The American Dream is Killing Me” and “Strange Days Are Here to Stay” are just the beginning of Billie Jo Armstrong’s trenchant observations about the sorry state of our lives thanks to Donald Trump.

Rock lives! Wake up, Dookie!

FANCY SAUCE

Take me to the inn
Called the loony bin
Somewhere I can rest my head
And take it on the chin
Flowers all in bloom
In my rubber room
Scratching at the wallpaper
In my solitude

[Chorus]
Go go
Falling like a yo-yo
Paradise for locos
Medicate my sorrow
I’m not crazy
You’re the one that’s crazy
Everybody’s crazy
Getting stoned and lazy
As we all die young someday
We all die young someday
We all die young and watch it slip away
We all die young someday

[Verse 2]
Howling at the moon
In the afternoon
Watch the evening news
‘Cause it’s my favorite cartoon
Gonna join a cult
Do a somersault
Everyone’s a victim
And it makes me want to puke

Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning” Drops Part 1 in Video Release as Next Chapter Must Be Separate

0

Oh for the days of “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1.”

But when the Tom Cruise semi-hit of last summer arrives on streaming January 25th, the Part 1 will be a ghost protocol.

Paramount has retitled the movie after Part 1 was a bit of a box office disappointment last summer. The movie was creamed by “Barbenheimer.”

Now it will be simply “Dead Reckoning.” The next installment will have a new name and concept and maybe undo some of the mistakes in “DR” (like getting rid of Rebecca Ferguson). Also, maybe making the central idea more accessible than “AI.”

The new movie will hit theaters in May 2025 so everyone have a much-needed Cruise break.

Serious Pop Musician Lana del Rey Becomes Valentine’s Pinup Girl for Kim Kardashian’s Lingerie Line

Who’d-a-thunk it?

Serious, smart, sophisticated songwriter Lana del Rey has become a Valentine’s Day lingerie pin up girl.

She’s modeling items from SKIMS, the lingerie and underwear line run by polar opposite and publicity hound, Kim Kardashian, former wife of Kanye West.

Who knows? Maybe Lana will get an album of songs from the experience.

The pictures are pretty good. See below:

Kelli Giddish Drops “SVU” Promo For Tonight: Looks Like Rollins is Back After Unceremonious Fall 2022 Exit

0

“Law & Order SVU” returns tonight, and it looks Amanda Rollins is back, too.

In August 2022, actress Kelli Giddish announced she was leaving the show after 12 seasons. It was clearly not her choice, just one of the typical weird budget calls at Dick Wolf Productions. Fans were not happy. Rollins exited last season only to return for the season finale.

But the “Law and Order” franchise has a history of people coming and going…and returning. It’s never the actor’s choice, believe me.

Now it looks like she’s back for Season 25. Fans will be very happy if her name turns up in the main credits tonight and not just as a guest star.

Stay tuned…

Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo Head Roster of Grammy Stars to Combat Low Ratings Trend

0

After the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards had trouble with ratings, the Grammy Awards are determined to do better.

The show will air Sunday, February 4th on CBS. Trevor Noah is the host.

But what are the main attractions? Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo have just signed on to perform. Those are BIG music stars. Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus will most certainly be next.

Who else will make it to the stage? SZA, Janelle Monae, and Noah Kahan would make sense. Jon Batiste is a certainty.

The show could use a little rock, and some make artists. Usher would be great. It’s his year, with the Super Bowl following in the next week. The Rolling Stones would be a huge get for the producers. So would Sophie Ellis Bexter singing “Murder on the Dance Floor.”

One nice surprise might be MusiCares Person of the Year Jon Bon Jovi. He’s being feted on the Friday night of Grammy weekend.

More announcements coming.

Apple TV Cancels “Schmigadoon” After 2 Praised Seasons, Show’s Creator Reveals Season 3 is Written

0

“Schmigadoon” has sung its last song, at least on Apple TV.

Show creator Cinco Paul announced on Instagram that Apple has cancelled the show after two seasons. “Schmigadoon” starred Cecily Strong and Keenan Michael Key as a couple lost in a fantasy world of Broadway musicals. A ton of Broadway and New York actors had recurring roles including Kristen Chenoweth and Titus Burgess.

The show won one Emmy award in its first season, had several nominations over its two runs. It was clever and smart, so of course, it’s gone.

Jennifer Hudson Will Go Talk Show Public on Monday with Boyfriend, Rapper and Actor Common (See Clip)

0

Jennifer Hudson — you know, she is remarkable. She’s an EGOT. Her talk show was just renewed for its 3rd season. She’s pulling in 4 million viewers a day. Not bad!

On Monday the 22nd, JHud will bring on as a guest her boyfriend, rapper and actor Common. They’ve been together a while, so I guess they’re ready to make it public. There aren’t two nicer people! Good for them!

Years ago, JHud called me from Chicago in the middle of the night to tell me she’d just given birth. “I promised I’d give you the scoop!” she exclaimed. The baby was just being rolled into her room. I think she was delirious with friendship and loyalty.

A little over a year ago, I went to see Common in his Broadway debut in “Between Riverside and Crazy.” Surprise of surprises: Hudson was visiting him in his dressing room on an off week from her show. I should have known then she was more than just a fan! (I took the picture here— that’s the great actor Stephen McKinley Henderson.)

We should all watch on Monday. Much deserved happiness, Jennifer! Now, make a new album! We need that voice!
