Sean Hannity Starts Plugging Christian Movie He Exec Produced and Appears In Starring Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo and Family

0

Are you ready for “Let There Be Light”?

The Christian faith-based movie is executive produced by Fox News’s Sean Hannity, and he’s already promoting it on Twitter. Hannity is also IN the movie, for god’s sake, plugging himself and Fox News. Religiously.

“Let There Be a Light” looks like quite the vanity production. Remember Kevin Sorbo, who played Hercules? He and his entire family are in it. That’s an acting dynasty we didn’t know about before. (No sign of Xena, but maybe in the sequel.)

Luckily for all involved “Let There Be Light” opens just as Hannity moves to 9pm on Fox News to take on Rachel Maddow. Since Fox News is featured in the film, my guess is we’ll be seeing a lot of the film on Fox News.

Get ready.

PS Dionne Warwick makes a cameo as her son, Damon Elliott, is listed as a producer. If she sings, I’ll see it.

Bill O’Reilly Says Firing by Fox News “A Political Hit Job,” “I Never Mistreated Anyone on My Watch in 42 Years”

0

Bill O’Reilly told Matt Lauer this morning that he has no idea why he was fired from Fox News. He tells Lauer “It was a business decision. There are billions of dollars at stake. They could prosper more without me.”

He calls his firing six months ago “a hit job, a political hit job.” He says, “I never mistreated anyone on my watch in 42 years.”

O’Reilly denies having any sexual harassment cases against him. He told Lauer that he never had a problem with Human Resources in his 42 years on the air. He explains why”You can’t win those lawsuits. I could do that but the collateral damage…every allegation is a conviction.”

Why didn’t he sue the women who filed complaints against him or sued Fox? “Those lawsuits involved many other people. You don’t have this story, Lauer, correct.”

Watch. Sad!

Nice People — Bruce Dern, Michael Kelly– Who Play Ruthless People Sample the Wares at Emmy Salon

0

Bruce Dern makes no bones about how he feels about the infamous patriarch Joe Kennedy, whom Dern portrays in the upcoming movie, “Chappaquiddick.” The film deals with the death of Mary Jo Kopechne (Kate Mara) who was in a car driven off a bridge by Joe’s son, Senator Edward Kennedy (Jason Clarke) in 1969. After two assassinations made the Kennedys American royalty, the Chappaquidick incident nearly turned them into America’s Most Wanted.

That moment when Ted escaped and Mary Jo drowned would haunt Ted Kennedy until his dying day and prevent him from ever being president of the United States.  Dern told me at the recent GBK Emmy Suite, “Joe Kennedy was a vile human being. When Ted went to him to tell him what happened, and the thinking is that Mary Jo could very well have been still alive at that point trapped in the car, all they could think about was Ted’s political future. Joe — who had just had a stroke and was wheelchair boun — his first word to Ted after Ted told him what had just happened, was ‘alibi.’  They were heartless.”

Dern, nominated for Best Actor for his beautiful work in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska,” got a chance to sample the wares at Gavin Keilly’s A list event during Emmy weekend, sponsored by Pilot Pen.which did an incredibly kind act when it was needed most.  Gavin said “It’s always a pleasure to partner up with such an amazing company and fine writing tool.”  Pilot Pen made a donation in name of celebrities attending the lounge to hurricane survivors in addition to a $5,000 donation to the celebrities’ charity of choice.  In the nature of “giving “GBK had three different causes on site , so they would have the opportunity to educate press and celebrities and on their causes in hopes of getting them involved.

The charities that benefited were the rescue Animal Wellness, Face Forward and the International Society of Human Unity.  Highlights were Blooming Skin Care’s Gadget, Taryn Rose for Enrico Cuini shoes, Cali Flour foods, Crown of Light jewelry, Eva’s gems, Entrepreneur Kori Nartey’s Sellebrity, Bodascious concierge, TexereSilk robes, and pajamas, Art Naturals, Au Mieux, Vita Cup, Bouquet Bar, Bullets 4 Peace, Chateau Boswell Wine and Eva Gems. Other buzzy items were iMaxAlarm, Mission Belts, Two Gypsy Souls rock and roll clothing, Kofi Nartey’s book “Sellebrity,” Caribbean Living and more.

Also lurking about was the delightful actor Michael Kelly, who plays the ruthless villain Doug Stamper on “House Of Cards.” Kelly enjoyed himself tremendously at the popular spa Burke Williams booth. Michael told me of “House of Cards”: “The show is all about power.  It’s set in the political world, but it’s all about who has the most power.”

Sports: Colin Kaepernick — Not on a Team– Named #1 Community MVP of Week by NFL Players Association

0

Colin Kaepernick has been named Most Valuable Player by the NFL Players’ Association for the first official week of the football season.

Kaepernick isn’t currently on an NFL team because they’re too cowardly to hire him. It’s an absolute disgrace.

The NFLPA Community Award to the former 49ers quarterback is for “his commitment to empowering underserved communities through donations and grassroots outreach.”

This is a real slap in the face to the NFL owners who are blacklisting Kaepernick for his political stance.

According to a press release:

On Sept. 7, which marked the first day of the 2017 NFL season, the free-agent quarterback announced his latest round of $100,000 donations, giving $25,000 each to four charities – DREAM, which provides after-school programs and youth sports opportunities to New York’s inner-city youth; Coalition for the Homeless; The Gathering for Justice’s War on Children, a new program that will launch in 2018 to continue the fight against child incarceration; and United We Dream, which addresses the inequities and obstacles faced by immigrant youth.

Kaepernick followed this up three days later with a Back to School Backpack Giveaway at the Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York, which connects girls and young women to entrepreneurship opportunities, healthy meals and STEM workshops. The Nike backpacks that were distributed at the Sept. 9 event were filled with books and other items for the crowd of students in attendance.

Last year, while a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Kaepernick vowed to donate a total of one million dollars to organizations working in oppressed communities. To date, he has contributed $900,000 toward that goal, benefiting the likes of 100 Suits for 100 Men, Meals on Wheels and Home 2 Heart.

“I’ve been very blessed to be in this position and make the kind of money I do, and I have to help these people,” Kaepernick said in September 2016 when first announcing his pledge. “I have to help these communities. It’s not right that they’re not put in the position to succeed, or given the opportunities to succeed.”

Along with his monetary contributions, Kaepernick created the “Know Your Rights Camp” to empower youth. The free campaigns have been held in Chicago, New York and Oakland with the mission of raising awareness on higher education, self-empowerment and proper interaction with law enforcement in various scenarios.

For being named this week’s Community MVP, the NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to Kaepernick’s foundation or charity of choice along with an in-kind donation to him on behalf of our supporting partner Delta Private Jets. Kaepernick, along with the other 2017 Community MVPs, will also become eligible for this year’s Byron Whizzer White Award, which is the highest honor that the NFLPA can bestow upon a player.

The NFLPA Community MVP program recognizes NFL players who are making a positive impact in their local communities. Each week during the regular season, the NFLPA will celebrate one NFL player* who has demonstrated a commitment to giving back to his community. Please visit our website to read more about the program as well as the current and past winners.

Emmys: Lowest Rated Ever as TV Academy, CBS Fail to Feature Stars of Highly Rated Shows

0

Last night’s Emmy’s continued the trend of being the lowest rated ever.NFL Football on NBC had more than twice the number of total viewers. The second week of a new “Galaxy Quest” type sci fi spoof on Fox called “The Orville” beat the Emmys in the key demo. A brand new show.

OK, this is the problem with the Emmy Awards. Even though, yes, last night’s show was great, and the winners were wonderful, and the speeches heartfelt and moving– this is the problem– there are no ratings for this show.

It’s a downward spiral for the Emmys because they feature actors from shows with either low ratings, no ratings, or not on TV. You can’t ask people to watch a show about TV and then not have anyone from TV.  If you do, then it’s the Cable ACE Awards. Remember them?

I did think that CBS might pony up some “NCIS” stars like Mark Harmon, or actors from their other shows. CBS may not have Emmy winners, but they have stars from highly rated programs. An Emmys on CBS would have been a good time for Harmon, Michael Weatherly, et al.– actors whom the CBS non-football audience might like to see– at least as presenters.

Kudos to the Emmy producers– the show was terrific, I thought– and I didn’t mind the Trump bashing. That wasn’t the problem. But I guarantee you next year, when the Emmys are on NBC, every member of the “This Is Us” cast will present.

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Louis Dreyfus Lead the Charge at HBO’s Annual Emmy Bash

0

The Emmys are over, and Robert DeNiro is already back in NYC.  Bob jetted in and out after the Emmys, he was nominated for playing Bernie Madoff in HBO’s “The Wizard of Lies,” but went back right after to start his first day on Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman.”

Bob sadly didn’t make the mecca of all parties, the glamorous HBO party at the Pacific Design Center.  No other party comes close to topping this A list soiree and last night it really rocked as HBO picked up 29 Emmys.  Nicole Kidman, towering and radiant in red, was mobbed with well wishers as soon as she walked in.  Nicole and Keith Urban were just the most adorable and when philanthropist Barbara Davis came to say hello, classy Nicole opened up her arms with glee to greet her.  Grande Dame Barbara just has that  affect on people!

Ben Affleck, looked happy and relaxed with  girlfriend Lindsay Shookus — a producer from the “Saturday Night Live” — sitting with Jeff Garlin and Larry David of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” —  cracking up at everything Larry said.  Larry was in good form and quite the social butterfly.  Seth McFarlane came in late and worked the room in lightning speed.  Julia Louis Dreyfus told me that it’s “the right time for “Veep” to end next season, but bittersweet.”  She was looking to see who had her statuette.

Reese Witherspoon in a blue Stella McCartney blazer dress with her look alike daughter 18 year old Ava Phillippe told me, “it still hasn’t sunk in”  that “Big Little Lies” picked up so many awards. The series’ director Jean-Marc Vallee, who won for best direction of a drama, came in with double fisted Emmys.  Alexander Skarsgard clutched his Best Supporting Actor Emmy followed by Laura Dern holding hers with her kids Jaya and Ellery in tow.

“Westworld” stars, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, James Marsden and Jeffrey Wright — although they got shut out — were hanging with the winning “Veep” cast. Jon Hamm hugged Sofia Vergara who later hung out with Jessica Biel (sans hubby Justin Timberlake).   CEO Richard Pepler chatted with Michelle Pfeiffer and David. E. Kelley.  The vivacious Anne Heche with her “Big Little Lies,” husband James Tupper, “Leftovers” stars, Amy Brenneman and Jasmin Savoy and the winner for “The Night Of,” partied on with Riz Ahmed, saying he would want to come back for the next installment.

Debra Messing fielded all the “Will and Grace” comeback kudos with her typical grace-iousness.  Kate McKinnon said she was still “in shock” from her win. Producer Trudie Styler– husband Sting–  is on tour, Jaime King, Julianne Hough, Keegan Michael Key and Elise Pugliese congratulated “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels on all the show’s wins. Plus Dash Mihok, Mark Gatiss (from “Sherlock” and “Game of Thrones”) and oh so many more.  HBO’s Emmy party just cannot be beat.  It’s the most coveted ticket at Emmy season as well as it should be.

Emmy Awards: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Breaks a Record, Many Firsts Among Winners

0

Emmys: Julia Louis Dreyfus broke a record winning her fifth consecutive Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for “Veep.” She has two other Emmys, for “Seinfeld” (supporting) and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (lead). But this is the sweetest– and she can win one more time, next year, which would be outrageous. And right.

“Veep” won Best Comedy Series but not best writing or directing for a comedy. Those two awards were firsts–to Donald Glover for directing his series “Atlanta” and Lena Waithe for co-writing with Aziz Ansari his series “Master of None.” They were the first African Americans ever to win those awards. Sterling K. Brown was the first African American to win Best Actor in a Drama since Andre Braugher in “Homicide.” Brown gave a Braugher a classy shout out.

HBO basically swept the Emmys, although Hulu became the first streaming service to win an Emmy for Best Drama with “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Ann Dowd gave the most moving speech when she won Best Supporting Actress for “Handmaid’s.” She’s 61 and was finally an overnight sensation five years ago when she was “discovered” in the low budget indie “Compliance.” She’s very deserving.

This Emmy show could actually win an Emmy. It was smoothly produced, highly entertaining, moved very well. There were no gaffes and the whole vibe was spot on.

Who stole the show? Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton. They made “Nine to Five” in 1980. That’s 37 years ago! Runners up: Norman Lear and Carol Burnett, and Cicely Tyson.

Jann Wenner Gives Up, “Rolling Stone”– the Last of His Magazines– Up for Sale

0

Rolling Stone is up for sale. Jann Wenner’s last magazine is going on the block following sales of US Magazine and Men’s Journal to American Media.

Of course, Rolling Stone has been whittled down to nothing after its heyday in the Sixties, Seventies, and Eighties. Mostly out of touch, Rolling Stone stopped representing any generation a long time ago. But once, a long time ago, it was so important.

Wenner Media has been pretty much destroyed by lawsuits following its disastrous University of Virginia rape story– a rape that never happened and a story that tainted many innocent people.

Last year sold off 49% of Rolling Stone to BandLab, a tech company. But apparently that cash infusion was not enough to save the magazine. The New York Times first reported the story tonight.

It will be interesting to see if Wenner can keep his strangehold on the Rock and Roll Hall of Foundation now. He’s used his influence with Rolling Stone to get friends in and keep enemies out. Much of the nominating committee comes from Rolling Stone. Now what?
