Beyonce’s Country Music Move Pays Off with Smash Hits, Lana Del Rey Next To Wear Cowboy Hat

0

Beyonce’s move to country music is a hit.

Her new singles, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages ” are number 1 and 2 across the globe. She’s got iTunes in the palm of her hand. The album, “Act II,” coming next month, will be a smash hit.

Beyonce’s turn to country music is not new for R&B stars. Ray Charles was HUGE in country. Charley Pride was a king of country music. The real selling point of ‘Act II” could be Beyonce applying her silky voice to solid songs sung well.

The Queen Bey is not the only artist to go country. Lana Del Rey — who looked like a kidnap victim in Taylor Swift’s posse this past weekend — has made the move, too. She’s got a new country album coming soon. Lana previewed it in December with a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads.”

In the meantime, Lana just dropped a cover of Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies” from a new movie I know nothing about called “The New Look.” This girl can sainnng! But someone rescue her from Taylor land, please!

Marvel Announces “Fantastic Four” Cast: Newest Remake Has Been Open Secret for Weeks

0

“The Fantastic Four” is back! Or ‘are’ back!

Marvel has just confirmed an open secret in comic book land. We now have the names of the latest group of actors to tackle this mighty assignment.

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon-Moss Bacharach, and have agreed to to the assignment.

They will play Reed Richards, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/the Thing.

This quadrangle succeeds the casts of the four previous movies from 1994, 2005, 2007, and 2015.

Pascal, who’s blazing hot these days, actually takes the role from John Krasinski. The latter’s appearance as Reed Richards in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was just a one off thing. Unless, of course, Krasinski turns up in a multiverse version of this new film.

And wow — Joseph Quinn’s run in “Stranger Things” has certainly ignited his career. He was just announced as part of the cast in a new thriller directed by novelist Bret Easton Ellis. And Ebon Moss Bacharach just won a Critics Choice Award and an Emmy Award for “The Bear.” Kirby went straight from “The Crown” to “Mission Impossible.” They’ll be an impressive group!

Exclusive: Everyone Including Meryl Streep Returning to “Only Murders in the Building” — And They’re Going to Los Angeles

0

EXCLUSIVE Did I not tell you this already?

At the great AFI luncheon in LA last month, I learned a great deal.

“Only Murders in the Building” co-creator John Hoffman told me that “everyone will be coming back” for season 4. I had already reported that Nathan Lane was returning after taking season 3 off. Hoffman confirmed that, plus the whole gang. Hoffman gestured to Meryl Streep at their table. “You’re coming back?” I asked La Streep. She nodded in assent.

I’m sorry, I thought I told you that news.

Now TVLine is reporting that the show will move to Los Angeles just to shake things up. Will Mabel, Charles, and Oliver solve a murder mystery in Tinseltown? Will they all live in the same building? (There are several stories choices to choose from, “haunted” and so on. Maybe they could move into Chateau Marmont!)

Since Hoffman said “everyone” very emphatically, that means Mabel’s (Selena Gomez) boyfriend, Tobert, will return, played by Jesse Wiliams, as well Meryl’s son, Dickie, played Jeremy Shamos. And maybe Andrea Martin as Charles’s girlfriend, Joy.

Oscar Nominees Danielle Brooks and Sterling K. Brown Are Cousins! News Delivered on “Finding Your Roots”

0

Celebrities always discover unknown relatives on PBS’s “Finding Your Roots.”

Tonight, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks got a shock when she was told Oscar nominee Sterling K. Brown is her cousin — 12th cousin, something like that. But the talent and kindness of these two people isn’t all that connects them.

Henry Louis Gates’s pieces on roots and ancestry are mostly comprehensive. But with Dionne Warwick, her piece was really weird. The show completely omitted Dionne’s relationship to Cissy Houston and Whitney Houston. I was a little shocked. Dionne’s mother and Cissy Houston were sisters. Also omitted was Dionne’s famous singing sister, Dee Dee Warwick. Was it intentional?

Dionne’s story was otherwise fascinating, and so was her reaction. The great singer, as she says, is a strong survivor. Her ancestors were slaves, but as Dionne says, they were afraid of nothing. It’s carried on into her own immediate family. Dionne is a remarkable lady. But leaving out Whitney, Cissy, and Dee Dee — bizarre.

So Danielle — nominated for “The Color Purple” — and Sterling — nominated for “American Fiction” — are cousins. She says on the show that they met once and what she liked about him was he reacted to a surprise by exclaiming “Jiminy Christmas!” and not by “cussing.” That registered with Danielle. Sterling has a lot of soul.

Good episode, but strange exceptions!

Is Katy Perry Really Leaving “American Idol”? Or Is She Negotiating a New, Better Deal?

0

Katy Perry sort of said this is her last season on “American Idol.” She’s been there seven years.

Is this really the end? Or is Katy just negotiating in public? She says she’s performing at Rock in Rio in September, and maybe she has a new album.

But Katy’s recording career has been on the slide since she began her “Idol” stint. She hasn’t had a hit record in a long time, and a lot of her record buying audience has moved on. It’s not so easy to break a new album after a long time out. She can still do tours and sing her hits, but at 39 she’s got a good gig on “Idol.” I wouldn’t think she’d give it up so fast.

Again, Katy hasn’t had a release since 2020, and that was “Daisies.” Ironically. that song’s writer, Michael Pollack, wrote Miley Cyrus’s big hits “Flowers” and “Used to Be Young.” Maybe she can get him to write a new album now.

Exclusive: Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley to Ed Zwick’s “Death of Kings,” A Real Life “Game of Thrones” (No Dragons)

0

“Glory” director Ed Zwick is busy these days. He’s got a new memoir out, plus I’m told he’s signed up to direct a real life “Game of Thrones.”

Sources say “Death of Kings” will likely have Morgan Freeman and Sir Ben Kingsley head up a big all star cast in a movie based on Bernard Cornwell’s best selling historical fiction.

The book was already part of a miniseries based on Cornwell’s six book series. But now “Death of Kings” will get a whole film just to itself. What’s it about? Wikipedia says “It continues the story of Saxon warlord Uhtred of Bebbanburg who resists a new Danish invasion of Wessex and Mercia.” Whatever that means. So far, no dragons have been mentioned.

Zwick’s book, “Hits, Flops, and Other Things” is already a hit, telling stories about the director’s “fortysomething” years making tough films like “Courage Under Fire,” “Blood Diamond,” and “Traffic,” and drowsily sentimental TV shows like “thirtysomething,” “Family,” “Once and Again,” and “My So Called Life.”

One of Zwick’s movie hits was “The Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise. This was before Tom went over the edge with Scientology. But even before “Samurai,” Zwick tried to get Cruise to star in “Legends of the Fall,” in the role of Tristan that eventually went, memorably, to Brad Pitt. Zwick even flew to the set of Ron Howard’s “Far and Away” to get Cruise on board and gave him the “Legends” script.

But Tom turned down the movie because it conflicted with his cult beliefs.

Zwick writes:

“…Tom had some penetrating and helpful things to say about the script. But after an hour or so, he asked about Tristan’s ethics—to which I responded that he essentially had none, and that was at the heart of the character. It was then I realized he would never do the movie.I’m told his question had something to do with Scientology, but if it did it was the
only time over the course of making movies together that it ever found its way into
a creative conversation. In any case, Tom eventually demurred. We wouldn’t see
each other again for ten years—when we did, it would be one of the most gratifying experiences of my career…”

Zwick’s book is full of good gossip, but not enough about “thirtysomething” for that show’s fanatics. Two things I got out of that chapter: Annette Bening auditioned to play either Ellyn (Polly Draper) or Melissa (Melanie Mayron). She didn’t get the part. Now she’s nominated for another Oscar this season. Also, Mel Harris, who played Hope — a character I loathed — has been married six times in real life!

Read the book. You won’t regret it!

Oscar Nominees Luncheon Secret Star: No One Noticed Sean Ono Lennon, Nominated for Animated Short Film, “War is Over” (Exclusive)

0

EXCLUSIVE  Sean Ono Lennon was a guest yesterday at the Oscars Nominees Luncheon.

No one seems to have noticed the musician filmmaker son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. But he was pretty excited about it. He posted a tweet at 7am yesterday, all dressed and ready to go.

“War Is Over!” is directed by Dave Mullins, and written with Sean. It’s a nod to his parents’ music, famous bed-ins during the Vietnam war, and to their hit song “Happy Xmas (War is Over).”

It doesn’t seem like Sean joined the fray for the big nominees class photo — or that he even told people he was there. He’s very self-effacing and humble. But congrats! And let’s hope he and Mullins surprise everyone and win!

But how ironic that all these A-listers were in the room and didn’t realize the Beatles progeny was among them. Not even a picture in the trades!

Oscar Winner Halle Berry Circling Spike Lee-Denzel Washington Remake of Akira Kurosawa Classic

0

EXCLUSIVE C2024 Showbiz411

Halle Berry and Denzel Washington made history in 2002 when they each won Oscars for acting in the lead categories.

Now I’m told Berry is considering joining Washington in Spike Lee’s next project. It’s a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low.”

World of Reel was the firs to report this, but I had already confirmed it. (Never sit on your good stuff!) So congrats to them.

Believe it or not, Halle and Denzel have never worked together before despite the twin Oscar wins. But “High and Low” is going to be a Big Deal. Many filmmakers have tried to turn the Japanese classic into an American release, but no one ever got it.

This might be because there are no real female leads in it. To pull this off, one of the main characters will have to be re-imagined for Berry. But what a powerhouse coupling this could be!

And how weirdly ironic — and sad– will it be if Halle wins another Oscar. No Black actress has won the award since her triumph — and that was 22 years ago! How is that even possible? Only 7 have been nominated for Best Actress since Berry’s win!

Kanye West Shouts Out Disgraced Former American Apparel Chief as “Brother” Who Inspired His So-Called Apology

0

Dov Charney is the infamous ex American Apparel. He filed for bankruptcy in 2022, eight years after he was fired from American Apparel over alleged misconduct related to his treatment of women at the firm. He still owes $20 million to New York-based hedge fund Standard General.

Jon Rafman, I told you about in the last few weeks. An artist, Rafman had his art shows in New York cancelled over accusations of sexual misconduct.

These are the guys Kanye West considers his best (Jewish) friends, along with actor Jonah Hill. On Instagram West says these are the 3 people who inspired his so-called apology, which he posted a few weeks in Hebrew that looked like it was written in AI.

There were reports that Charney, who was drummed out of the clothing business, was working for or with West in his Yeezy line. “Dov is our family, I stand by my Jewish friend.”

To say West is disingenuous is an understatement. Let’s forget the lyrics to his new song, “Vultures.”

West is an antisemite who’s hooked up with the worst people imaginable as shields.

Charney is a poor choice, certainly. He’s been sued several times over the last 20 years for sexual harassment by employees. He’s said numerous times that he sees no problem with sexually pursuing his employees, down to the age of 17. He’s now 55.

West is currently having a fire sale on his yeezy.com website — 20 bucks for shoe socks, workout pants, and t shirts.

He’s also getting surly about posts with pictures of his wife naked. See below.

Super Bowl History for Ratings! Chiefs-49ers Beat Last Year, Set a Record with 123.4 Million Across All Platforms

0

It was a Super Super Bowl last might for CBS.

The ratings are in, and the records have been broken.

Last night’s game brought in 123.4 million viewers, way up from last year’s 115 million. And that was already a record!

That number is across all CBS networks. But just on CBS it was 120 million. Exceptional. And CBS says altogether 200 million were watching at some point!

The combination of a great game played by hot teams, Taylor Swift, all the other celebrities, and so on plus Beyonce dropping new music — this Super Bowl was a rare American pageant. The homecoming queen/head cheerleader kissed the homecoming king, football captain. All that was missing was apple pie and a glass of milk!

Now the pressure is on for Kansas City to come back next fall and make it three in a row! Is it possible? Will Taylor and Travis Kelce tie the knot on the 50th yard line?

We can only hope.
