Biden Fundraiser with David Letterman on Martha’s Vineyard on July 29th: Will Obamas Show or Snub?

0

All this talk of money drying up for the Biden campaign. And yet.

The Biden campaign is coming to Barack Obama’s backyard of Martha’s Vineyard on July 29th. First Lady Jill Biden will host a massive fundraiser there, which will, of course, include the President.

Of all people, David Letterman is the draw. He apparently (and smartly) has endorsed Biden.

But the real drama will be the appearance or absence of Barack and Michelle Obama. They live right there on the tiny island. If they don’t show, it will be considered a sign and a snub. Being “away in Europe” will sting.

Obama, it should be noted, has been a guest on Letterman’s Netflix show. So that may be a sign, as well.

Other organizers include Hawaii Gov. Josh Green and his wife Jamie Kanani Green, Kenneth and Dede Feinberg, Carol and C. Bernard Fulp, Eric Green and Carmin Reiss.

The address of the event, for now, remains hidden, but I imagine it’s at one of the homes of the people mentioned.

Martha’s Vineyard is a curious mixture of wealth for both whites and Blacks. One of the hosts is Bernard Fulp, 87 year old wealthy and influential Boston banker, who is Black. The Feinbergs are among the top Vineyard set. So this fundraiser is being planned carefully.

Letterman should attract a number of celebrities to event, like Carly Simon.

But the big question mark is the Obamas. They will be the bellwether for the continued existence of the Biden campaign.

Friday Box Office: “Twisters” Kicks Up a Storm with $32.2 Mil Opening, Heads to $75 Mil

0

The box office had only one appointment Friday night.

“Twisters” took in $32.2 million including Thursday previews.

The Glen Powell good ol’ boy adventure should see $75 million by the end of the weekend.

Otherwise, theatres were quiet as “Despicable Me 4” and “Inside Out 2” keep entertaining families.

The box office needs a shake up and that will come next Thursday with “Deadpool and Wolverine” smashing everything around it. We’ll see it on Monday and find out all the spoilers! *Like if there will be two more!!

Katy Perry’s New Single, “Woman’s World,” Fails to Launch with Just 3K Sold

0

Katy Perry was hoping her new single would be a “Firework.”

Instead, it’s a fizzle.

“Woman’s World” has sold just 3,202 copies in its first week of release. Actual downloads are just 991.

“Woman’s World” was supposed to be the launching pad for a new album, “143,” coming in September. But now that the single has bombed, something else will have to be released by August 1st.

Perry has a very scattershot marketing system. They don’t seem to be on top of anything, or in tune with how to make a hit. When she was on “American Idol,” Perry had a couple of non-hits that also fell flat. But this one was supposed to reset her after “Idol.”

I’d say a big part of the “Woman’s World” problem is the video, but it has had 9 million views on YouTube. I guess those came from the curious. Perry had better not have producer Dr. Luke on any more tracks, or she’s going to face even more blowback.

Are big stars so insulated from the real world? I thought Katy was more practical.

Slim Shady Rebirth: Eminem Knocks Taylor Swift to Number 4 with Opening Week of 287K “Death of”

After three long months, Taylor Swift has been vanquished.

Eminem came along with “The Death of Slim Shady” and knocked “Tortured Poets to number 4.

The new Marshall Mathers album sold 287,000 copies, with 100,000 of those streaming equivalent.

“Poets” really had the stuffing knocked out of it, selling just 83,000 copies — the first time it went under 100,000. After selling almost 5 million copies, I guess everyone who wanted it has “Poets” in all forms.

New to the charts: Clairo’s “Charm” album with 44,000 copies. Three years ago, Claire Cottrill’s father, a marketing exec, steered her first album to no sales and instant failure. So it’s nice to see she’s overcome that swing and miss — at least for now.

Singer of the summer: hands down, Chappell Roan. She’s everywhere, and she’s good! A genuine artist. Her “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” has sold around 600,000 copies. Her publicists don’t return emails, but that’s what happens when you become an overnight star!

Trump Media Stock Dropped 6.4% Today In Week Long $15 Skid Since Monday

Trump Media stock had a week long price drop that never recovered.

On Monday, Trump Media zoomed to $46 after the weekend assassination attempt.

But that didn’t last long. Every day since then the stock price has declined. Today it fell another 6.4% and finished just around $35.

In other words, last night’s crazy rambling speech full of lies didn’t do anything to help his cause. The price is back where it was on April 23rd. It rose in May but now it’s down again.

Where are the investors who are excited about ‘the new Don’? The soft spoken 34 time felon and rapist should have seen a spike this week, but instead, it was all for naught.

Meantime, TruthSocial.com, which is supported by Trump Media, continues to spew hate. All the posters there are concerned with is informing each other how much they hate Biden and the Democrats. There is nothing of any substantial value.

Sundance Post-Redford: Festival Considers Moving to Five Other Cities

0

The Sundance Film Festival, invented by Robert Redford in 1980, has taken place in Park City, Utah all this time.

But the festival and the city have not always gotten along. Even though Redford has brought more to Park City than they could have ever imagined, the end of the relationship may be near.

Sundance is considering offers to move. The choices are Atlanta, Boulder, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Santa Fe — as well as just staying put.

Moving would be a seachange for Sundance, where pneumonia, the flu, and frostbite make the viewing of indie movies a sniffling affair. It’s always freezing, wet, and snowing. The cabs cost a fortune but there’s not many other ways to get around.

If there’s a move, it would affect the 2027 Festival. The next two — 2025 and 2026– are set for Park City.

A statement says: “Along with members of the selection committee, we will meet with the finalists’ representatives in each of their cities in the coming weeks to further explore the possibilities of the Festival in those locations and the unique opportunities each presents.”

Atlanta, Boulder, Louisville, and Cincinnati all sound fairly generic and lacking much character. Santa Fe would be a welcome weather change. In the end, I think most people would prefer remaining in Park City despite Wahso restaurant having closed.

So stay tuned. These may be the last two winters to buy an oil painting of a bear eating a fish at a Main Street gallery.

Deadpool and Wolverine Trailer Offers the Destruction of the 20th Century Fox Logo

0

“I’ve waited a long time for this team up,” Deadpool says in the new trailer for “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

He stands facing the ruins of the 20th Century Fox logo. Wolverine was part of the X Men, which was made by Fox until they were subsumed into Disney.

Very meta. Very witty. Like all of the Deadpool and Wolverine marketing, coming from Ryan Reynolds. No one is talking about Reynolds’ real genius in marketing movies, vodka, phone companies. He knows what he’s doing.

So don’t think for a minute that Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, mother of his four daughters, isn’t playing Lady Deadpool. Lively doing this is bigger and more meaningful than Taylor Swift.

Wolverine, meantime, encounters his long lost daughter, and does a little imitation of Spider Man casting his webs. All the dialogue is fast talking, very glib, and spot on. I’d like to see this movie with captions!

Deadpool and Wolverine opens next Thursday, and it will break box office records. But real story here is Reynolds. He’s the most interesting person making studio films.

“Twisters” Opens to Blockbuster $10 Million Previews as Glen Powell Becomes Star of the Year

0

This year, it’s all about Glenn Powell.

He’s the star of “Twisters,” which made $10 million last nignt in previews and is headed for a big weekend.

Powell already starred in the romcom “Anyone But You” — a big bit — and the excellent “Hit Man” on Netflix.

And he is everywhere. You can’t turn on the TV without seeing something about Powell, his parents, his dog Brisket, life in Texas, his plans to finish his college degree.

Handsome and self effacing with a very Gary Cooper attitude, Powell first got famous in Richard Linklater’s “Everybody Wants Some.” Two summers ago he hit it big in “Top Gun Maverick.” Now, all hell has broken loose.

Suddenly everyone wants to make a Glen Powell movie. His name even sounds Hollywood — a mixture of Glenn Ford and Tyrone Powell. Or even Dick Powell and Glenn Campbell. Our Powell will probably play that Glenn sooner or later. It’s meant to be.

He’s not in a cult, doesn’t seem to date teenagers, hasn’t used his money to buy an island in the South Pacific. What could go wrong? Hopefully, nothing.

Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen Recommends Trump Band Play Hilarious Put Down Song “Man in Tin Foil Hat” (Listen)

0

This week the RNC band Sixwire playing for Donald Trump kept using Steely Dan songs. One of them was “Reeling in the Years.”

But Donald Fagen has a better idea for the band. Why not play the song he and Todd Rundgren wrote and recorded 7 years ago? It’s called “The Man in the Tin Foil” hat. Set to a jazz arrangement, the song eviscerates Trump in biting lyrics. (See below.)

Wouldn’t it be great if “The Man in the Tin Foil Hat” went to the top of iTunes? Let’s start it here!

… He’s coming down the escalator
With a girl from east of here
He wants to make the country greater
We’ve got nothing left to fear

… Because the man in the tin foil hat
Is sitting on the throne tonight
It kinda feels like a coup d’etat
But it’s gonna be great, tremendous, amazing and all that

… ‘Cause the man in the tin foil hat
Is tweeting like a teenage girl
He puts the Pluto in plutocrat
It’s gonna be a yuge yuge yuge new world

… He hasn’t got the time for losers
Unless they do as he commands
He’s writing checks to his accusers
With those tiny little hands

… Because the man in the tin foil hat
Is sitting on the throne tonight
It kinda feels like a coup d’etat
But it’s gonna be a yuge yuge yuge new world

… ‘Cause the man in the tin foil hat
Is gonna drain the swamp tonight
And fill it with up with alternative facts
It’s gonna be great, tremendous, amazing and all that

… ‘Cause the man in the tin foil hat
Is tweeting like a teenage girl
He puts the Pluto in plutocrat
It’s gonna be a yuge yuge yuge new world

… Because the man in the tin foil hat
Is sitting on the throne tonight
It kinda feels like coup de tat
It’s gonna be great, tremendous, amazing and all that

Barron Trump MIA as Grandchildren of All Ages Appear at Republican Convention

0

Barron Trump’s face is going to be on a milk carton tonight

The 18 year old son of Donald and Melania Trump was missing in action for his father’s big moment at the RNC.

All of Trump’s grandchildren, from the youngest to the oldest, were present. One little girl sat on Trump’s lap and made faces while her father, Eric, speechified.

Melania Trump made sure to arrive in the stands after Donald had left for the stage. She sat by herself, and there was no sign of her son. Melania laughed at Kid Rock’s ridiculous, awful rap performance.

So where was Barron? I’m sure they’ll have a good story tomorrow. Maybe he was checking into his phantom college.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media is fawning and carrying on like they’ve been through the poppy field in The Wizard of Oz.

Never forget this:
