EXCLUSIVE Alas, there will be no pre-Grammy gala dinner this year hosted by Clive Davis. Fear not Clive is fine. But between COVID in Los Angeles, a booked Beverly Hilton, and no proper venue available in Las Vegas, everyone involved has deferred to good sense.
Here’s the official statement from Clive Davis and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason:
“Due to the logistical obstacles caused by the ongoing pandemic, including the unavailability of an appropriate venue, we have decided to postpone the 2022 Pre-Grammy Gala. We will resume the celebration next year when we will host an incredible evening in our unique and glittering way, hospitable to our wonderful music artists, music executives, film, television, sports and illustrious politicians who annually love the event like no other.  As previously announced, other GRAMMY week activities will be held in Las Vegas and the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards will continue its tradition as Music’s Biggest Night on April 3 from the MGM Garden Arena.”
The sound you are hearing is weeping from the guests, the musicians, the movie stars, the rock stars, and the caterers. Clive’s dinner is the best night of the year, but we have to be brave. The party will return next year.
So this makes Musicares honoring Joni Mitchell, set for April 1st, an even hotter ticket. And the Grammys themselves, as well, on CBS April 3rd.
