Director John Waters designed the 2020 New York Film Festival poster, based on old rock and roll and R&B show posters and notices for boxing matches. It’s whimsical and fun, of course.
The poster features four living male directors and one only woman– Agnes Varda– who is dead. Next to her picture the poster reads: “We have women, too!” Well, not exactly. Agnes, who we adored, will not be attending, even virtually. Were there no living women that could be featured?
The four men are Martin Scorsese, Pedro Almodovar, Barry Jenkins, and Jean Luc Godard, who is a robust 89 years old.
