(Listen) to the Remixed Version of Whitney Houston’s Unreleased Take on Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love”

Will it be a hit? Is there such a thing?

Who knows? But Whitney Houston’s unreleased version of Steve Winwood’s hit, “Higher Love,” will be dropped on us tonight.

The song was only on the Japanese version of Whitney’s 1990 album “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” There’s a live version from then, when Whitney’s voice was at its peak of gorgeousness. I’ve included it here.

Kygo, a contemporary hit producer, has remixed the recording to make it sound up to date. But really. it’s just that voice. You could listen to it forever. And “Higher Love” was always one of the greatest records ever. Steve Winwood deserves more credit for all his work, from “Gimme Good Lovin'” through Traffic and his solo records.

Here’s the original live version.
