Oscars: Academy Short List for Documentaries Pits Jane Goodall Against Al Gore, the Grateful Dead, and A Dead Black Man

Share

The short list is out for the documentaries eligible for the Oscars. Five will be chosen as the final nominees. It’s a very competitive year, pitting Jane Goodall against famed filmmaker Agnes Varda and Al Gore. That’s right, Al Gore’s sequel to “An Inconvenient Truth” made the cut. So did the Grateful Dead, and a Hasidic woman’s brave journey to mainstream life. One of the most profound people I’ve met this season is Yance Ford, who made “Stronger Island.” Please watch this film on Netflix. Ford made a speech at the Gotham Awards that took everyone’s breath away. The story of William Ford’s death is profound.
