Broadway: “Finding Neverland” Closing This Summer, Going on Tour, Opening in London, Becoming a Film

Broadway: “Finding Neverland” will become a film musical says producer Harvey Weinstein, based on the Broadway musical which was based on the 2002 film of the same name that starred Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet.

But first “Finding Neverland” will close on Broadway this summer and go out on tour across America this October.

Then, next spring, the musical will open in London. And it could come back to Broadway at some point for limited runs.

Got all that?

The U.S. national tour will launch on October 11 at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre in Buffalo, New York and playing 50 cities in over 77 weeks.  “Finding Neverland” will have played 33 previews and 565 performances and grossed $54,404,430 through last week, (week ending Sunday, May 1, 2016.)

The show started strong at the box office on Broadway for the first year, but when Matthew Morrison left in January, the air went out of Captain Hook’s sails. Nevertheless, I predict this will be a popular draw on tour–watch and see how well it does. It’s a rare family show, and that means a lot when you’re playing to non Broadway audiences.

Meantime, Harvey Weinstein brings “Singin’ in the Rain” to Broadway next year.
