Rupert Murdoch was attacked in Parliament today by a man in a plaid shirt– said to be activist comedian Jonnie Marbles– who tried to hit the mogul with paper plate full of shaving foam. Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, who’d been sitting behind her husband, jumped up and hit the attacker before he could harm Murdoch. It seems like the foam fell on Murdoch’s suit jacket and on the attacker himself. Later a member of the panel quizzing Murdoch and his son James said, “Your wife has a very good left hook.” I always liked that Wendi Murdoch. She’s terrific. And she’s been sitting behind her husband for three and a half hours as he’s had trouble answering questions about the phone hacking scandal unless the answers came from a script. James Murdoch looked nervous during the entire testimony. Hopefully, the shaving foam incident won’t divert attention from the serious business at hand. PS Marbles Tweeted: “It is a far better thing than I have ever done before.” #splat. Yikes.
