A magic number for Eli Roth’s “Borderlands” is 10.
The video game adaptation will make less than $10 million this weekend.
On Rotten Tomatoes, only 10% of critics liked it.
Two time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett stars in this mess that cost $115 million.
Someone will have to pay that bill. Lions Gate? “Horizon” actually looks like a hit by comparison. (No, just kidding.) The executive producer is Avi Arad, who gave us “Ghost in the Shell” and “Punisher.” Another one of the EPs is Harold Strauss Zelnick, who made music mogul Clive Davis a mega star by trying to chase him out of BMG Records in 2000. Zelnick was fired. Davis, 92 now, has zoomed to higher heights.
What went wrong here? Everything, starting with making a movie from a video game. It’s not recommended, rarely works out.
Well, GAME OVER. And not a good look for Blanchett, who told Andy Cohen on TV the other night she made no money from “Lord of the Rings.” Blanchett has the most powerful agents in Hollywood. So, let’s say she was just joking. If all she got was sandwiches, they were stuffed with caviar.
