Let’s Go! “Deadpool and Wolverine” $205 Mil Weekend, Biggest R Movie Opening Ever — Plus Downey Back in “Avengers”

Share

Before this weekend, the biggest R rated movies opening weekends were the two “Deadpool” Movies.

But now “Deadpool and Wolverine” has opened to $205 million, far eclipsing the previous releases. Number 1 used to be $132 mil for the first “Deadpool” in 2016.

No more.

“D&W” is a triumph for Marvel, which one release this year. They shouldn’t have any trouble getting to a billion dollars domestically.

Internationally, “D&W” has another $115 million logged, with more receipts coming in.

Is it a great movie? No. Is it a memorable souvenir for superhero fans? Yes. Will it have a sequel? Undoubtedly, although next time the stakes will be higher.

How important is Marvel to an actor’s career? Yesterday at the San Diego Comic Con, the studio announced that Oscar winner Robert Downey, Jr will return to the fold in a new Avengers movie.

Downey was killed as off in his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in “Avengers: Endgame.” But now he’ll play Dr. Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Will the other Avengers recognize him? Who cares! This isn’t “Oppeneheimer,” you know!
