Tony Awards Move to Lincoln Center After Disaster Uptown, Radio City A Thing of the Past

Share

The Tony Awards are moving to Lincoln Center.

After this past summer’s disaster in Washington Heights, the Tony’s have made a wise deal t take place in the David Koch Theater, formerly the State Theater of New York.

The CBS show will be broadcast on June 16th, 2024 and is shaping up nicely this far in advance. Some of the featured shows will be “Here Lies Love,” a huge hit right now, plus “Merrily We Roll Along,” and the revival of “Tommy” coming from Chicago.

What seems clear is that the Tonys at Radio City Music Hall seems to a closed chapter. The Broadway League and CBS can’t make a deal with Madison Square Garden productions. That’s too bad. But the Koch (pronounced coke) will be great.

The only problem with the Koch is that it only seats 2,500 people. That’s half of Radio City’s capacity. The demand for tickets will be worse than a Taylor Swift concert!
