Oscars go blue.
With the situation in Ukraine being front and center, look for numerous celebrities, nominees, presenters and industry professionals to be wearing a blue ribbon with the hashtag #withrefugees.
The ribbons are distributed by the UN Refugee Agency, who have put together this campaign for the celebrities and more to wear the Blue ribbon with hashtag #withrefugees in solidarity with ALL people forced to flee oppression.
Anadil Hossain, who is the Principal Communications Advisor for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN refugee agency launched this initiate with help from Bonnie Abaunza. Hossain notes that “This notes that “This year’s Oscar nominated films include some powerful stories centered on the themes of refugees, displacement, home and belonging — Encanto, Flee, Three Songs for Benazir, Belfast and Dune — at a time when the world is witnessing the largest refugee crisis since WW2. Artists have been wanting to show their solidarity for Ukraine and we wanted to ask them to extend this support to the almost 84 million people forced to flee. Whenever. Wherever. While the ribbons are a symbolic visible gesture, we saw this an opportunity to message around a wider understanding and awareness of this global humanitarian crisis – as the nominated films this year have done with great imagination and empathy.”
Good for the UNHCR and Hollywood for supporting such worthy cause.
