Warren Beatty’s “Howard Hughes” Movie Courted for Cannes Film Fest Premiere

As the awards season ends, the awards season begins. And that starts with the Cannes Film Festival, which opens on May 11th.

And what we’re hearing is that Warren Beatty’s still untitled “Howard Hughes” movie is being courted for a key spot on the Croisette, maybe even opening night.

You may recall I told you a few weeks ago that the film, which finished shooting in June 2014, was definitely going to be released this year. What better way to launch it than at Cannes, where the sight of Beatty, Annette Bening, Lily Collins and Alden Ehrenreich ascending the red carpeted stairs at the Palais des Festivals sends goose bumps? Thierry Fremaux will be doing hand stands at the top of the stairs!

Beatty is reluctant to show the film and finally let the audience judge him. But I have a good feeling about this film. And Warren Beatty is the smartest guy in Tinseltown. I just can’t wait for it to have a title!

One more Cannes entry, non competition: “The Nice Guys” starring Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger, directed by Shane Black.
